This unusual set-up was found in the left-hand corner of the mill floor. You can see from the cut on the floor that running water was added after the mill was built (1806). This urinal was installed without a flush valve--instead, one would use the lower faucet. Above that is another faucet (with spout) for filling bottles and buckets.
Tasmania’s Riversdale Estate is a small family company, owned and operated by husband and wife team, Ian and Wendy Roberts. Home base for the company – and its adjunct vineyard and wine tourism businesses – is a picturesque farming property, overlooking Pitt Water, at Cambridge, in the island State’s renowned Coal River Valley wine region, just outside Hobart.
Riversdale Estate’s wine business comprises 37 hectares of cool climate wine varieties producing highly-acclaimed single vineyard wines, in addition to select parcels of wine grapes that are sold under contract to some of Australia’s leading wine companies. One of Tasmania’s largest olive groves is also planted on the property.

Irony of a pool to be named after the local member, and PM who drowned at the then Portsea Army Base.

Statement of Significance
What is Significant?
The Harold Holt Swim Centre is a complex of indoor and outdoor public swimming pools and facilities. It was built in 1969 on the site of the original Malvern Swimming Baths. The then Malvern City Council decided to name the Centre in memory of Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt following his disappearance and presumed drowning at Portsea.
The swimming complex was designed by local architects Kevin Borland and Daryl Jackson and is one of the earliest buildings in Victoria of the Brutalist style.
The Harold Holt Swim Centre originally consisted of two indoor pools and, outdoors, an Olympic-sized pool, diving pool with dive tower, wading pool and changing rooms. The indoor centre is a glass and concrete structure distinguished by its unpainted concrete block and off-form concrete construction in which the patterns created by the timber form-work are clearly seen. The principal components of the building's functional and structural system are emphasised as positive elements of the building's form, in particular the circulation elements including concrete pedestrian ramps and semi-circular stair. There is a transparency through the entire site and natural light is maximised by glass walls on the indoor pool complex, enabling a clear line of sight from the diving pool on the northern boundary through the pool complex to High Street on the southern boundary.
In response to changing needs and continued functioning of the Centre, there have been several alterations to the original design. In 1988 multifunction rooms, offices and spa were added, the enclosure of part of the mezzanine concrete access ramp and the addition of an indoor therapeutic pool. In 1998 the original laminated timber truss members and ceiling of the indoor complex were replaced by painted steel decking and a small light tower was added to the main chamber. In 1999 the plant room was enlarged and painted. Alterations to the building have generally been sympathetic, although the addition of offices on the mezzanine level has restricted access around the indoor centre, interrupting the intended pattern of movement. There has been some loss of original texture, colour scheme, and transparency through the building due to alterations to the ceiling and plant room. These changes have to some extent compromised the original design of the building, however the intention of the design is still easily read in the external concrete forms and internal spaces. Unlike many Brutalist buildings, much of the off-form concrete remains unpainted leaving the imprint of the form-work clearly visible in the finished concrete
Kevin Borland is noted for his co-design of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Pool, and the inventive Clyde Cameron College (1977). Daryl Jackson is considered an important proponent of Brutalism in Victoria. The Harold Holt Swim Centre is the earliest of Jackson's Brutalist designs and pre-dates other early Brutalist buildings in Victoria, notably the important Plumber and Gasfitters Union Building designed by Graeme Gunn (1970). Jackson continued his use of massed off-form concrete forms with function dictating design in such structures as the Princes Hill Secondary College (1972) and the M.L.C. Resources Building, Kew (1973).
The garden setting for the pool complex retains a number of plantings from the earlier Malvern Swimming Pool gardens, including Bhutan Cyprus (Cupressus torulosa), Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis) and Canadian Poplar (Populus canescens).
The Harold Holt Swim Centre was awarded a Citation, Recreation Category, Victorian Chapter of the R.A.I.A. Architectural Awards in 1969.
How is it Significant?
The Harold Hold Swim Centre is of architectural significance to the State of Victoria.
Why is it Significant?
The Harold Hold Swim Centre is architecturally significant, being amongst the most notable, expressive, early and intact examples of the Brutalist movement that emerged in Victoria in the late-1960s. It represents the aesthetic, as well as ethical imperatives of the Brutalist style. The bold articulation of forms in textured off-form concrete and concrete blocks and glass, provides a sculptural imagery which is fundamental to Brutalist architecture. The heavy forms are balanced with focused transparency through the site, achieved by extensive use of natural lighting and the careful planning of the interior spaces.
Brutalism's ethical concern with social responsiveness is expressed through the expression of the construction materials as finished surfaces and the centrality of the user in the design of the building. This is clearly evident in the emphasis on circulation elements (the use of expressed ramps and stairs) and the articulation of the functional systems (ramps, skylights, service ducts, mezzanine observation deck and in the overall clarity and integration of the building, pools and gardens).
The Harold Hold Swim Centre is architecturally significant as the work of two important Victorian architects, Kevin Borland and Daryl Jackson. The design of the Centre reflects the development of architecture in Victoria through the 1970s, including the purposeful arrangement of masses and voids; the expression of the materials of construction as finished surfaces; the expression of structural form; and transparency for the user through directional internal planning.
The Harold Holt Swim Centre is of some historical and social significance as a memorial to the local member and then incumbent Australian Prime Minister, Harold Holt who disappeared, presumed drowned at Cheviot beach near Portsea, prior to the opening of the complex.
At the local level, the site is important for the provision of aquatic recreation for the people of the south-eastern suburbs from the construction of the original Malvern Baths in 1926 to the present. The place retains the planted banks of the earlier pool, as well as the square of parkland fronting High Street."

With the problem of the missing space, the solution add one more room in the garden is a clever option. Simple wooden shelter transformed into extra room or true extension of the home, the concept seduces trend in the country as in the city. The bonus room can be a room, a studio for a teenager, office or workshop. Multifunction room can save a few square meters cheaply. With minimal work, it proves to be a good compromise in search of space.
1. How do I know if my garden is adapted to receive one more room?
Small or large garden, the solutions adapt to the outer surface and the urge residents. Subject to compliance with some technical and administrative constraints. Construction, if it remains removable, can even be installed in hiring.
Other parameters are added for the possibility of installing an extra room in his garden. A construction will be possible depending on the nature of the soil, ie the type of foundation, the thickness of the concrete slab and possible backfill under it.
2. What are the candidate materials for one more room in my garden?
The major constraint to install one more room in the garden is to have a weather resistant construction and moisture. Cube represents the four squares of 1 m 20. It is divided into two parts: a lower part with a stainless steel casing in isolating and a glazed upper part with 33/2 glass. The frame is galvanized treated steel and stainless steel with the possibility of additional treatment, according to the settlements.
More traditional, wood or metal are common materials for garden sheds. They can become trim parts, as required. Increasingly sophisticated, these little houses require good insulation to be inhabited.
3. How best to isolate an outdoor room?
Good insulation of one more room in the garden is the main condition to be able to live comfortably. In conventional huts, the insulation is reduced with fairly thin walls. Ground and on the walls, insulating plates polyurethane in the coating help to control moisture. Insulation is a real problem, everything depends on the nature of the walls ... We think no less but isolate the room from the outside with expanded polystyrene is another option. The finish can be a coating or cladding (wood, PVC, composite). "
4. How can you connect a room in my garden to water and electricity?
Depending on the extent of the project, connections to water and electricity can be more or less complicated. If you want to enjoy electricity, the design of an electrical panel with appropriate protections to safety standards is an option. The water supply to sink or shower, for example, can be done either from home or on a tap of the water supply. Wastewater, they can be related to the sanitation of the house by gravity or using a pump type Sanibroyeur. Before embarking on the project, it is better to consult professionals for personalized advice.
With the trend of parts ready for assembly, other simpler and greener options are emerging. If evacuation is not possible, it is proposed to adopt green reflexes users: Packsoap, solar panels, wood stove, water collector or dry toilets are solutions.
5. What is the cost of one more room in my garden?
To establish closer your budget, determine your needs and your needs first. A wooden shelter can be a spare room while a turnkey module becomes a true extension of the home. Comfort is not the same. The price either. For a simple shelter of pine with a thickness of 19 mm and an area of about 5 m2, count $ 500.
Work continues on the second phase of the Homeland Security Training Institute at College of DuPage. The F/A-18 Hornet came about as a US Navy replacement for late model A-4 Skyhawks, A-7 Corsair IIs, and F-4 Phantom II squadrons not replaced by the F-14 Tomcat. It was also heavily influenced by the need for a fighter cheaper than the F-14. The Navy participated in the Lightweight Fighter (LWF) competition won by the F-16 Falcon, but found the F-16 unsuited for carrier operations.
With this in mind, the Navy approached Northrop and McDonnell Douglas to build a suitable multirole fighter based around the loser of the LWF competition, the YF-17 Cobra. The resulting F-18 Hornet was larger and much more versatile than the Cobra, though it retained the latter’s basic design. Initially, Hornet production was to be divided into the dedicated fighter F-18 and strike A-18, but with advances in technology, the two were combined into a single airframe as the F/A-18.
The first YF-18A flew in 1978, the production F/A-18A in 1980, and service entry in 1983, with the US Marine Corps in January and the US Navy two months later. The Hornet was found to be very agile, exceptionally easy to maintain, and more than able to live up to its multirole reputation, to the point that it is considered to be the world’s first true multirole fighter, where fighter and attack roles are integrated into the same airframe and can be switched by literally the push of a button. Its only drawback was a lack of range and initial problems with stabilator cracks, which was solved by strengthening the stabilators and adding small wing fences to force away air from the tail.
The F/A-18A/B was superseded on the production line in early 1987 by the C/D models, which differed from the earlier type by using an upgraded APG-65 radar, improved engines, internal ECM suite, and the ability to carry the AGM-65 Maverick, AGM-88 HARM, and AIM-120 AMRAAM, though the latter would not actually come into service until 1993. The F/A-18C/D incorporated field modifications made to A/B models; those of the latter still in service by 1993 received a similar upgrade with the addition of the APG-70 radar. USN/USMC Hornets of all types would see action over Iraq in the First Gulf War, and later Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq a second time.
USMC all-weather units replaced their A-6 Intruders with F/A-18Ds, which were night attack capable with the addition of FLIR, improved multifunction displays, and lowlight goggle compatibility. The USN later followed suit, with the F-18C replacing the A-6E as well from 1995. Though the F/A-18C/D has been supplemented by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and is due to be replaced by the F-35 Lightning II, it will continue as the backbone of the USN/USMC for some years to come. In addition to the US, the Hornet also serves with the previously mentioned nations of Canada and Spain, as well as Australia, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, and Switzerland.
F/A-18B BuNo 161943 was one of the first B-models to join the Navy, arriving with VFA-125 ("Rough Riders") at NAS Lemoore, California to begin training new Hornet pilots in 1984. In 1985, it would change coasts, going to VFA-106 ("Gladiators") to do the same job at NAS Oceana, Virginia. In 1989, 161943 was back on the West Coast with VMFAT-101 ("Sharpshooters"), training new Marine Hornet pilots. Finally, in 1991, it would be assigned to the Blue Angels as Blue Angel 7, the two-seater assigned to the team for flying around the narrator, acting as a spare if necessary, and taking up assorted VIPs (and the occasional Blue Angel ground crew) on PR missions. After a very long stay with the Blue Angels, 161943 was retired in 2008 and donated to the Yanks Air Museum.
Since 161943 never went to sea, it would be referred to as a "goldbrick" in Navy parlance. Since I saw the Blues a few times before 2008, I imagine I've seen 161943 before, albeit from a distance! This aircraft also seems to dislike being photographed: not only did my picture not turn out very well (that was my fault, not Yanks--I was moving around), but Yanks' official pictures of 161943 also seem to be blurry!

Sitting in the middle of the dashboard is a multi-function LCD touchscreen. The default view shows the “Energy Monitor,” a representation of the powertrain. Animated lines indicate the flow of energy. For example, when driving up a steep driveway, the gas engine powers the wheels. Coming down that same driveway, the gas engine is idle (or off), and the wheels power the electric motor, which stores the surplus energy in the battery. The genius of the Prius is in efficiently switching among these various modes to conserve energy, reduce gas consumption, and reduce emissions.

By Gareth Hoskins Architects, 2012. The multifunction space is able to support a full programme of activities for vulnerable adults; a state of the art wood-panelled event space alongside several smaller meeting rooms; and a bustling café staffed by volunteers.
On 1 June 2011, as part of a tour of Scotland, HRH, the Duchess of Cornwall visited some of the Grassmarket Community Projects in Edinburgh’s Old Town. The projects were set up with the aim of helping homeless adults by offering education programmes, drop-in services and other activities such as cookery, gardening and woodwork.
After visiting the projects in action, the Duchess spoke to architects, Gareth Hoskins and Donald Simpson of Gareth Hoskins Architects about their proposals for the new two storey extension that will house the various activities and services. The accommodation wraps around a naturally ventilated community hall that can be rented out to provide extra income, and the woodwork shop run by the Kirk produces elements of the interior such as timber wall panels, the reception desk and furniture. Planning permission for the new project was granted in March 2011, the client being Greyfriars Kirk.
