In February 2008 we had the honour of having a TV crew over at the studio of our hardware partner SOCO Amsterdam. They worked on a program called “In de ban van het ding” (practical joke which translates to “lord of the things”). It was broadcast on the 27th of February 2008 on the public TV channel VPRO. We had a full featured item in which we explained the benefits of multi-touch technology on one of our early prototypes. We got tremendous feedback from all kinds of organisations, businesses or otherwise interested individuals.
What Matters Most is a real-time news aggregate built on my custom multi-touch hardware. The applications aims to determine what media people truly care about. Polling stories from the popular aggregate service Digg, content is displayed hierarchically starting at the top-level container topic. Navigating allows the user to drill-down into topics, categories and stories, as well as the surrounding user conversations.

This isn't really a great photo or anything. But its something I'm really proud of. Its my multi-touch table. Its a massive computer table for which the entire surface is a touch screen.
I'm just running a demo in the picture showing that it sees my fingers. Pretty neato!
The RENCI at Duke University Engagement Center includes a 13-foot x 5-foot multi-touch visualization wall that uses six HD projectors (two rows of three) for a combined resolution of 5760 x 2160 pixels. The display wall enables multiple users to simultaneously interact with their data and images by directly touching the wall. Attendees listen to Sen. Dodd's presentation. "The National Infrastructure Imperitive." RENCI brought its multi-touch table and two touch-enable plasma displays to the conference to demonstrate several applications related to growth and sustainability.
I showed my niece Kaili (age 6) the iPhone picture interface, and she got it in about 15 seconds, and was able to play with it going through all the photos and looking at them. Targeting the second of a double-tap was the only thing she had a problem with, and she did have expectations that the device would respond to greater pressure.
Nonetheless, the device scored way higher in learnability and general enjoyment than the OLPC laptop I gave her, which frustrated her and me to no end. My common-law nephew-in-law Lewis, aged 10, had a better time of it, but his successes took lots of collaboration and help.
