Here is the multi-touch kiosk I built for a recent project with Natasha Marshall (textile design studio). The casing contains a 1080p projector, an IR camera and 2 mirrors. The surface consists of one layer of Plexiglas EndLighten and one layer of Plexiglas Satin Ice (both manufactured by Evonik Industries) with a ribbon of IR LEDs being wrapped around the frame.

This performative lecture and aerobics workshop tackles the anxiety of body ownership in the face of technology. Liat Berdugo and Phoebe Osborne have created an aerobics routine for whole bodies to reinterpret common gestures used with handheld devices. The choreography begins with the simple scrolling and swiping familiar to all smart phone users, and advances to more complex and freshly patented movements.

What kinds of Touch Panels Are You Looking for?
A touch panel is one of the kinds of computer display screens, which can also be called an input device. Due to the sensitivity to the pressure of the touch panel sensor, users interact with the computer by touching the objects on the screen.
Three types of touch screens are listed below:
Resistive Touch Screen:
A resistive touch screen panel is a sensor that is basically a film-plus-glass structure that converts the physical position of a touchpoint (X, Y) in a rectangular area into a voltage representing an X coordinate and a Y coordinate. Resistive touch screen panels are generally more affordable but provide only 75% clarity and the layer may be damaged by sharp objects. Resistive touch screens are immune to external elements such as dust or water.
Surface Wave Touch Screen:
Surface wave technology integrates acoustics, electronics, and semiconductors into new technology. They have the advantages of small size, flexible design, mature technology, good consistency, and reliability. Surface wave technology uses ultrasonic waves that pass over the touch screen panel. Surface wave touch screen panels are the most advanced one of the three types of screen touch panels, but they can be damaged by external elements.
Capacitive Touch Screen:
The resistive touch screen panel is constructed by placing a transparent thin-film conductor layer on the glass touch panel and adding a protective glass to the conductor layer. This double glass design completely protects the conductor layer and the inductor. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, the capacitive touch screen market has been developing rapidly.

Around this time came announcement of the magic mouse, a wireless mouse developed by Apple which has a multitouch surface on the top to replace the ickle mouse ball thingy. I had a play on it and it was definitely funky, but one thing that really got to me was the fact that it lacked a middle button.
Middle buttons are useful in browsers when you want to click on something in a new tab or close a tab. I also have it assigned to close applications by middle clicking on the taskbar (not much on the Mac side mind, i think they kept things on two mouse buttons for simplicity sake). The magic mouse was pretty ace in terms of scrolling as well as moving forwards and backwards a page, but alas, it still didn't work for me. I ended up looking more into the whole tablet thing since it was more of an addition to the mouse than a complete replacement. Not to say that you HAVE to use a mouse, because eventually you can navigate control your machine with just the tablet once you get used to it (which takes about a few weeks).
So yeah, tablet is pretty ace, it comes with multi touch support so I can also have it as a SUPER GIANT touch pad! I'm lefthanded which means I can essentially use the mouse on the right hand and the tablet on the left.
Really enjoying the tablet atm, the thing i love most is the absolute position of everything in the tablet, so if you point the pen to the top right of the tablet, it will point to the top right of the screen, rather than having to drag yourself all the way up there, I believe once you get used to it you'll know where exactly to touch without thinking about it, so yeah...
Anyone else got a tablet or looking to get one?
