This adult female bison was feeding on late winter grasses in Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park. The picture is cropped from a telephoto image. Having worked with bison for more than a decade, I have great respect for their athleticism and speed.
Not the most flattering portrait of our queen, but that's how mug shots usually are...

May 2021 be the best year ever for everyone! I'm getting a slow start to the new year, still thinking and planning out how I want to live this year which feels very significant in many ways.
Our New Year tradition of taking a "mugshot" almost didn't happen this year as Jasper was extra tired and slept most of the day, but then he perked up in the evening and was ready for his close-up. I can't help but to wonder if this might be the last year of our long-standing tradition, but I try not to dwell on the unknown and just appreciate the gift of each and every day we're given.

What can I say? The mugshot is apparently popular. I'm pretty stoked about that bruise on his cheek though. That came out better than I could have hoped ^_^ And as usual.. is best viewed large!

This masked bandit showed up on Sunday and has been in the yard every day since, and yes I do mean day, aren't they supposed to be nocturnal?
It's after 9:30am and this guy is still crowing. He takes his job very seriously, even when away from home. When I woke up this morning I thought the crowing I heard sounded awful close. There are chickens nearby, but far enough away that they are not a bother. I found this particular fellow right in front of my house. No wonder it was loud.
