I spent a couple days in northern Minnesota and was fortunate to see some northern lights.
I was kind of surprised I wasn't able to see the colors with my eye until I checked the display on my camera.
Per Wiki...Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. These disturbances are sometimes strong enough to alter the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere).
The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying color and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles. Precipitating protons generally produce optical emissions as incident hydrogen atoms after gaining electrons from the atmosphere. Proton auroras are usually observed at lower latitudes.

The Don Valley Brick Works, also known as Evergreen Brick Works, is a former quarry and industrial site located in the Don River valley in Toronto, Canada. The Don Valley Brick Works operated for nearly 100 years and provided bricks used to construct many well-known Toronto landmarks, such as Casa Loma, Osgoode Hall, Massey Hall, and the Ontario Legislature. Since the closure of the original factory, the quarry has been converted into a city park which includes a series of naturalized ponds, while the buildings have been restored and opened as an environmentally focused community and cultural centre by Evergreen, a national charity dedicated to restoring nature in urban environments.

It took nearly a week, but the sun finally came out, AND I was out before the it set, so I was able to nab my first train of the year, and in grand fashion!
On the east side of Lawrence near Mud Creek, I was thrilled to see a westbound rolling towards me as soon as I showed up. Making things better was the fact that it was this Baby Wings-equipped EMD on the point, the UP 1508. This is the Topeka-Bonner Springs local returning to Topeka with the ex-SP, exx-B&O Geep on the point.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Out in the woods of Georgia is Sky Valley, a somewhat fancy leisure community and golf course that seems out of place. When you enter Sky Valley, it seems like any waterfalls would have disappeared with the buildup of the community, but off in a corner of Sky Valley is Mud Creek Falls. It’s actually a very pretty waterfall that is easy to access and even has a little picnic area next to it.

I noticed this buck was limping when I spotted him moving through the trees. Hopefully this wounded warrior survives this also.
