Willow Canyon at Mt Lemmon, Santa Catalina Mtns just east of Tucson, Arizona. A really interesting road trip

Taken on the Butterfly Trail close to the Bigelow towers.

Taken just off of the Catalina Highway past Windy Point, but not quite into the forest. Heading up the highway, on the left, you may have seen an arch--easily missed because it hugs the road on a turn. I climbed up and tried to get behind the arch, but my dexterity and balance proved to be more challenging than I anticipated. It wasn't a total loss as I managed to shoot this while I was up there.

Scouted out this location and got lucky on a very cold, windy, rainy day. Slipped in the mud racing up a hill, all the while trying to keep the equipment dry. Checked out several possibilities before selecting this section of the mountains to capture the image of the rain streaming down. Watched in awe as the light painted the mountains and sky with a lovely array of pastels. Winter storms in Arizona often bring a dramatic palette of colors.

On July 29 2015 I joined Ned and the gang on one of the summer Mount Lemmon hikes. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

"Nature of our Galaxy"

Life can be a very chaotic thing. Some things live for millions of years while some only live for seconds. But in reality, life expectancy can never truly be predicted. Never take life for granted.

This photo is for 2 of my close friends who I lost this month due to nature's unexpected turns, Andrew Ashcraft and Shanti Carlisi, who I shared some of the best memories of my life with. Both of you will be greatly missed by us all.

Remember nature in this world can be a beautiful thing but it can also be violent. Life is love - enjoy it.

Sunset over Tucson from Windy Point on Mt. Lemmon.

I framed the picture to include the light trails of cars headed down the mountain. I like that the headlights bouncing off the rock walls along the highway almost makes the road look like its on fire.

I am very grateful that Mt. Lemmon exists. It provides welcome relief as we await the start of the summer rains. And/but, It was very cold up on the mountain. I got chilled to the bone while taking photos due to the radical change from the 100-degree-plus days we've been having in Tucson and not having taken a warm jacket with me. When you're baking in the desert heat in the valley, it's hard to imagine that, one hour later, after driving up Mt. Lemmon, you'll need a down jacket and a warm hat!. It was a bracing change. .

In the past I've found shooting into the light very challenging. But I guess this time it was late enough and overcast enough that glare/burn out was not a big issue.

Even though I'm surrounded by people who I love and people who love me, sometimes I still feel a little lonely.

Today the smoke plume and pyrocumulus cloud above the Bighorn Fire had an eerie similarity to the scene in 2003 when the Aspen Fire overran Summerhaven on Mt Lemmon.

I'm hoping the fact that there has been a lengthy opportunity to prepare (the fire started on June 5th) will make all the difference. In 2003 there was only two days between the start of the fire and the destruction of Summerhaven.

Fire breaks around Summerhaven are being created or old ones cleared and portable water tanks (pumpkins) are prepositioned to fight the fire.

I've been waiting for the chance to do this (otisblank.com/2011/01/11/took-the-w108-up-mt-lemmon/) again and I finally got the chance today. Took a lot of film photos, I'll post them when I can.
