On the rugged terrain on the border with Canada are a set of three iconic peaks: Mt Larrabee, the American Border Peak and the Canadian Border Peak. A sunset view at any time of the year is spectacular. But at the right time of the year, the juxtaposition of colors, snow and light make for a memorable scene. Hope I can get to experience this once more before the season ends.

Mountain bike tracks on Cougar Divide, Mt. Baker Wilderness, Washington State (2012)

I can only guess how they got here but they have, mountain bikers leave their mark on Cougar Divide in the Mt Baker Wilderness. Maybe a class in environmental ethics ought to be more widely taught.

Took a short hike on Sunday, up to Excelsior Ridge and the High Divide Trail. From our lunch spot, we counted at least 30 different kinds of flowers in bloom.

Hemlock trees with huckleberry in fall color and first snow of fall. Mt. Baker Wilderness. Washington Gitzo tripod (GT3530LS) Really Right stuff Ballhead (BH 55 LR). Published name: Dennis Frates. I live in Wilsonville, Oregon. I had spent many days in this area photographing the autumn huckleberry you see here, and felt I captured some good images. On this day I was blessed with the first snowfall of the season. I had the place to myself, and only a short amount of time before the snow melted. I knew the scene was special, but I waited until the low clouds in the background appeared adding to the mood. It was one of the most special moments I have ever spent in the mountains. Lens Canon 24-70 2.8L. All other camera data is in "Camera Data".
