Koreans call the military police "MPs." They look particularly scary at night when they camp out in endless rows in their reflective vests behind riot shields. But they are just kids, serving their 2-year mandatory military duty.
Lately there have been a lot of them blocking traffic in our neighborhood, which isn't too far from the President's house.

Maryland National Guard Soldiers from the 29th Military Police Company, one of Maryland’s newest Guard units from the western Maryland communities of Westminster and Cascade completed special urban training during this year’s annual training. Commonly referred to as MOUT ( Military Operations in Urban Terrain) the training taught Soldiers how to work with civilians on the battlefield, specialized room clearing procedures and various other law enforcement skills. The 29th MP Soldiers joined nearly 900 other Maryland National Guard Citizen Soldiers as part of the 58th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade at Fort Pickett, Va., June 12-26, 2010.
