Mrs. Jens Quam Laid to Rest Last Thursday
With Vertin Funeral Home of Wahpeton making arrangements and Pastor E. O. Urness in charge, funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran church near DeLamere on Thursday, December 31 for Mrs. Christine Quam, 61. She passed away at the home of son, Clifton on Saturday morning, December 26, where she had been staying since returning from the hospital.
A devotional service was conducted at the Clifton Quam home where Pastor Urness and Rev. G. Gabrielson of Moorhead sang a hymn. At the church special music consisted of a solo by Miss Norma Friskop and a vocal duet by Pastor and Mrs. Gabrielson. In addition to the sermon by Rev. Urness, Rev. Gabrielson added a few consoling remarks. Pastor Gabrielson is the temporary pastor of the church in Wyndmere which she attended.
Besides floral tributes, considerable money was given in memoriam to charitable and missionary causes and local congregation.
Through the death of Mrs. Quam the community and congregation loses a very loyal and devoted citizen whose life brought much blessing not only to her family, but to many others as well.
Pallbearers were Elmer Wyum, Julius Beitland, Ed Moxness, Geo. Friskop, Arthur Foley and Geo. Johnson of Wyndmere.
Mrs. Jens (Christine) Quam was born August 9, 1892 in Freeman township near McLeod. She moved with her parents to a farm near DeLamere in 1900 where she grew to womanhood.
On June 21, 1910 she was united in marriage to Jens Quam of Kenyon, Minn., at DeLamere. Mr. and Mrs. Quam then farmed for several years near Kenyon and then moved to a farm in Wyndmere township, Richland County. After Mr. Quam's death in 1939 she remained living on the home farm, now occupied by her son, Stanley land family, until 1947 when she moved to Wyndmere.
Surviving are three sans, Clifton, Garvin and Stanley, all living in the community and a daughter, Myrtle, Mrs. Ben Trangsrud, at DeLamere. There are six brothers and sisters, John Kjos of Lynwood, Calif., Mrs. Ed Abrahamson, Milnor, Mrs. Henry Kjos of near Wyndmere, Ole and Chris Kjos of near DeLamere and Sern Kjos of Wahpeton. There are also 15 grandchildren.
