It was a nice week. :) I had a great birthday. (Well, for me. :D) It was simple, a friend unexpectedly stopped by to give me dozen of Krispy Kremes and hang out with me. Then we (My fam and I) went out for dinner and we had Japanese. :DD Then some froyo for dessert. :) (Birthday post later) The only thing that made me really happy are the people who greeted me that day. It was really special cause one of my bestfriend went here from UK (for the third time) to celebrate with me. :)
So anyway, our week's concept is "moving forward" or moving on, being free, etc. IDK if I did it right but that's the concept that run into my head when I thought of those words. :P

With this series I wanted to personify my feelings about Winter. A week before Christmas two years ago, one of my best friends passed away suddenly. That group of friends are family, and have been since middle school and early high school, and I've seen them grow so much over the past two years. Being that it was our first death, it hit us hard, and as soon as it gets cold all of those memories come back. This year though, rather than bummin about the loss of such a beautiful soul, we have to focus on the positive. The fact that we got to be so close with someone so distinctly unique and wonderful, and to exude love, kindness and inner beauty. When you're dealt with such a tragedy in your life, there's nothing you can do besides creating more love and beauty in the world. So rather than focusing on the loss that my "extended family" and I experienced (like I've done in previous work), I wanted to show that love and beauty help lessen the blow. The dead tree branches represent death and life, the flowers represent beauty, and the fog is like the daze we all walked around in, with the light being the light of love.
This image is designed around a CD cover suggestion for a Rastafarian band here in Namibia. I was looking for something more eye catching than the usual fare. I was aiming at giving it an African flare with the elephant and desert. Many Rastafarian's still face resistance and objection. The elephant can also be seen as an obstacle that needs to be overcome and eventually led to better pastures....
The young cannabis plant is about growth and hope. If you want to smoke it be my guest..:)
The moon and stars are symbolic for many things.

For as long as I can remember, I've had people tell me I was missing out on life because I was looking at it thru the viewfinder.. they simply did'nt get it.. the big picture... if only they knew.. what you can see.. when you really pay attention.. when you take the time.. when you zoom in and create everlasting memories.. you truly see the world in a whole new light ! and now.. thanks to flickr.. I have the chance to share that vision with amazing people who really understand what it's all about...
I started the 365days project a couple of days after getting a brand new point'n'shoot for christmas.. I was in love with that cam and the possibilities it suddenly gave me.. I always loved photography and practically had a camera with me all the time.. but now.. it was different.. as if I could finally express myself without any bounderies... And then I bought a SLR camera, a tripod, a remote and I'm buying myself a 50mm f1.4 in a couple of days ! I don't even know how I stumbled onto the 365 group.. but I'm sooo glad I did ! I really enjoyed doing this project and I'm very proud of what I've accomplished and for the fact that I haven't missed a single day ! Sure, some days were more difficult then others, but it forced me to get my camera out, no matter what, and for that I'm really thankful. My shots did not always represent my real mood, because frankly 2008 was not my best year, but I think I stayed true to myself and it helped me deal with all sort of emotions..
I met some of the most interesting and amazing people thanks to this project.. who inspired, moved and challenged me.. every single day... They made me laugh, cry, smile and left me in awe.. I had goosebumps so many times.. I can't even begin to tell you ! I feel really lucky and blessed to have crossed paths with all my contacts and others who share the same passion. And now.. I'll have more time to just lurke around ! ;)
Of course I can't stay away from here for too long.. :)
I will not start another 365days of me.. well.. not now anyway.. but I will continue shooting and posting as often as I can... I just can't stop.. I'm addicted... :)

I felt the need to do something simplistic. Something serene with a clean color pallet. This image is from my excursion to the beautiful Catalina Islands. The message is meant to be simple and easy to read. The title comes from a little known fact that we are in essence 72% water. A metaphor for the fragility of our peace of mind, the brevity of our lives, the pouring out of ourselves into relationships and work and our inability to hold back our feelings and emotions. I captured this long exposure shot on the train ride from Boston to Providence. Something is mesmerizing about the blur of motion, a fleeting glimpse of the world rushing by. As the scenery melds into abstract lines and colors, it's a reminder that life, much like this train ride, is always moving forward—sometimes faster than we realize— a moment of stillness amidst the hustle, a bit of art born from the ordinary. Also, trying to photograph out of a moving train window without looking too touristy is an adventure in itself!
