Mount Drum
This 12,011-foot volcano rises only about 37 miles due east of Glennallen in a storybook cone with a snowy crown. Although Drum had a dramatic prehistoric eruption history, scientists believe it has not exploded in about 800,000 years. (Alaska.org)
This scene was captured from the side of Mount Tassie which is in the state of Victoria, Australia, not far from Balook.
Late in the afternoon torrents of rain had fallen over the general area, and the humid conditions and a warm ground both combined to fill these valleys and hollows with mist.
As I was photographing the rising and falling swirls of mist, the sun broke through underneath the cloud layer and presented this dramatic and beautiful sunset.
It was a wonderful end to the day.
The ash fields around Mount Yasur on Tanna Island _ Vanuatu. Walking in these fields is harder than it looks! Temperatures around 32 celcius, over 95% humidity and ash and sulphur fumes swirling in the air. The vulcano has been continuously active since first described by Captain Cook and likely hundreds of years before that.
Just after dawn at Marazion and the causeway out to St Michaels Mount. Another one from the archives, as the sun hits the side of the chapel on the island. This lovely granite cobbled causeway with its sinuous curve leading to the island at low tide, is a lovely photographic subject. Just would have liked the light and clouds to play ball on this one off visit, but still a gorgeous place in any light.

Mount Shasta overlooks Lake Siskiyou in California. Mount Shasta is one of the largest volcanoes in the Cascade range and also one of the highest in California. It also is one of the few mountains in California with active glaciers -- located on its northeastern side.
A volcano felt to be probably dormant, but you never know...

Mount Whitney, at 14,495 feet, is the highest peak in the contiguous US. We drove out the Whitney Portal Road to the gate which closed the road due to snow. This shot was taken near the closure gate.

Here I was, looking north at the viewpoint a mile past the peak of Mount Pisgah with an amazing view of Lake Willoughby and into southern Quebec.
We were so close to the border that our phones thought we were in Canada! 😁
This 4.1-mile with an elevation gain of 1,653 ft trail is one of the best hikes in Vermont.
The views on top were beautiful and worth the strenuous hike. The elevation gain in the short distance made this rocky trail a hard one.
If you zoom in you will see two hikers on top of the outcrop (on the right) .
The boat looks like a silverfish to me, and I have a deep fear on silverfish! 😉
Hiking downhill never bothered me, so I thought after all the huffing and puffing going up on this steep trail, coming down would be a breeze. Not so in this one. Besides the steepness, the trail was covered by leaves, compounded by the heat, exposed roots, rocks, and occasional mud really made it slow going.
Yes, it always feels good AFTER a demanding hike, but NOT during! 😊🌞
Thank you for your visit!!! 💕
Mount Rushmore, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, is a monumental sculpture featuring the faces of four U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Carved into granite by sculptor Gutzon Borglum between 1927 and 1941, the 18-meter-tall (60 ft.) faces symbolize the nation's founding. I captured the giant sculpture from multiple angles, but this was my favorite.

This was taken during the pandemic. It is apparent from the lack of light in the windows that this hotel does not have many, if any, room guests.
A rare and retiring beauty, and a contender for the title of Most Beautiful Wildflower in California.

On New Years day I was returning "home" from the El Paso airport. I decided to watch the sunrise on the east side of the mountains, and afterwards I was headed down the western side of Transmountain road when I saw this image. Part of what is amazing is that from within the cities of El Paso and Juarez, Mount Cristo Rey appears to tower over the city. However, from this vantage point we can see that it is a small mountain in the valley compared to the others in the area. Behind Christo Rey are the mountains that are part of the Sierra Madres that go south into Mexico.
I am drawn into the multiple layers in this image.
Mount Ngauruhoe is an active stratovolcano and is the youngest vent in the Tongariro volcanic complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island, and first erupted about 2,500 years ago. Although often regarded as a separate mountain, geologically it is a secondary cone of Mount Tongariro. (Wikipedia)
