Happy Forth of July!! May God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1941 was the year Mount Rushmore was completed. Per Wiki... Between October 4, 1927, and October 31, 1941, Gutzon Borglum and 400 workers sculpted the colossal 60 foot (18 m) high carvings of U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln to represent the first 130 years of American history.

The carving of Mount Rushmore involved the use of dynamite, followed by the process of "honeycombing", a process where workers drill holes close together, allowing small pieces to be removed by hand. In total, about 450,000 short tons (410,000 t) of rock were blasted off the mountainside. The image of Thomas Jefferson was originally intended to appear in the area at Washington's right, but after the work there was begun, the rock was found to be unsuitable, so the work on the Jefferson figure was dynamited, and a new figure was sculpted to Washington's left.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, the sculpture's roughly 60-ft.-high granite faces depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The site also features a museum with interactive exhibits.

A message from me:

I turned off the comments for this image because I realized that I crossed a line with myself here on Flickr. I always kept my artistic side just that, artistic and not political. I was trying to make a statement and I received some nice alternative commentary which I enjoyed, but I also realized that it really wasn't for this platform because some of it did spark my ire. I already lost one "Flickr Friend" a while back because she couldn't respect my "we can talk about anything BUT politics" approach and I really don't want anymore of that silliness with anyone.

I will say again, as I made in a since deleted comment, that I don't care what side of the fence you're on we are being taken over from the inside out and this country is going down the tubes and the only way we can fix it is by putting our differences aside, realizing that we ALL are being lied to each and every day about who did what and so forth, and joining together to rid ourselves of our corrupt leaders. We need a change in this country, and fast!!

Thanks for reading!

This was a new one for me. I had never seen Rushmore lit up at night.

There was a scenic lookout on the road out of Mount Rushmore park and this is the pic I captured there! It was so fantastic to see this elegant profile of President Washington!!!

Thanks so much for your visits and have a pleasant day/evening

Mount Rushmore

South Dakota, U.S.A.

Left to right, the four presidents depicted here are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. In my opinion, Lincoln is the best carved with amazing details and a magical life in the eyes.

It's a tough call whether to go for a photo that gives a sense of scale or one which shows the incredible details carved in the stone. I went for the latter here but eventually will post some which show scale. In the meantime, I'll run through a few facts. Mount Rushmore has an elevation of 5,725 feet (1,745 metres). Noses on the presidents are about 20 feet long, eyes about 11 feet wide, mouths about 18 feet wide.

There are many different views of Mount Rushmore. This is one of them.

I think most people when they first get to Mount Rushmore

are a little surprised at how small the heads seem. The heads with noses about 20 feet long, eyes about 11 feet wide, and mouths about 18 feet wide are by no means small. But it's just that they seem so far away; for people are expecting to see the great big heads that one sees in travelogues. You need to have a zoom lens to get those views and I did get my own shots like that (see below). I also really liked this shot too though because it gives a sense of scale and location.

The four presidents on Mount Rushmore were chosen for their contributions to the founding, growth, preservation, and development of the country.

High in the Black Hills, along a winding road, near Sylvan Lake, not far from Mount Rushmore, within sight of the magnificent Needles, and around the bend from Crazy Horse Monument, is this narrow, jagged tunnel, roughly carved through the granite mountainside. One lane and seemingly tight for me in my F150, Campers can make it through, although just by the narrowest of margins.

State flags wave ushering in visitors to the spectacular carvings of the Presidents. Notice how few are wearing masks, even though it is required to enter.

One of the last Mount Rushmore pictures. I took it, because it made me think Roosevelt was telling Lincoln a joke.

Doesn't it look like they're talking to each other?

Ever wonder what they might be saying?

Detail view of Mount Rushmore and the busts of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. I love the solemn, determination portrayed in the expressions of these sculptures hoping that we, as citizens of many nations and the world, can face our own significant and mounting problems with moral courage, compassion, resoluteness, and backbone.

Mountains and history combined.

Classic view. Stone cold clear day.

Great road to get awesome views of Mount Rushmore. It has a lot of switchbacks and is pretty narrow in some places, but do it if you possibly can.

It was a beautiful day at the monument. It is wonderful place to visit. Make sure if you come, to also go to the lighting of the monument. It is very special.

As you walk up to the Monument you pass through an area where all the state flags are presented. It is always neat to find your state flag. I have always taken a picture of my state flag.
