Iceland is the only European place where you can find these bird. I was shooting the waterfall behind with a complete tripod, wide-angle and filter setup when this guy landed right in front of it. Of course priorities changed and the tele had to come out.

Australian Shelduck pair. Commonly known as Mountain Ducks.
Lake Seppings, Albany, Western Australia.

The Australian Shelduck, Tadorna tadornoides, is a shelduck, a group of large goose-like birds which are part of the bird family Anatidae, which also includes the swans, geese and ducks. The Anatidae article should be referred to for an overview of this group of birds.
This is a bird which breeds in southern Australia and Tasmania. In the southern winter, many birds move further north than the breeding range. As with other shelducks, this species has favoured moulting grounds, such as Lake George, NSW, where sizeable concentrations occur.
This species is mainly associated with lakes in fairly open country, breeding in tree holes, holes in banks or similar.
The male is largely blackish, with a chestnut breast, white neck collar and dark green head. The female is similar, but has white around the eye. Both sexes, like most shelducks, show large white wing patches in flight. They are Protected under the National Parks and Wildlife Act, 1974.
The genus name Tadorna comes from Celtic roots and means "pied waterfowl", essentially the same as the English "shelduck".[1]
Look at that blue on the female Mountain Duck, she really is a beauty. Taken in Albany, WA.

With a rich-chestnut breast contrasting with a white ring-neck and sooty-black head and body, the Australian Shelduck is a handsome waterfowl. Shelducks sometimes congregate in flocks of more than a thousand birds, especially when moulting, and usually occur at large or deep wetlands, or in grasslands, pasture or crops. Females can be distinguished from males by a white ring around the eye and the base of the bill, and they can be heard calling to one another, the male honking loudly, and the female answering with a buzzing call.

The sun was out this morning, and I found this pair of Australian Shelduck"s , Tadorna todornoides basking in the sun! Albany, Western Australia.
In the new Bird books they are not listed under ducks! The world is going mad.
Always will be Mountain Ducks to most Australians.

Here's photo of harlequin duck I met on the CUpsoque beach. It's the first and so far the only time when I saw the harlequin. I was surprised that this guy was not afraid at all, it allowed me to came pretty close and didn't seem to care too much about my presence. Harlequins are known to winter in flocks but this was a single bird and I couldn't see any of its companions, It spent several minutes preening, then just stretched its wings jumped into the sea and disappeared. I was glad that I could meet such a beautiful duck
