Just driving mother Hen over to the motor pool to pick up a truck she needs for a little project.

It's on a need to know basis and I obviously don't need to know.

My guess, though, is she is heading Ipswich Dock way to pick some girls up for the dance tomorrow night in aid of three bomber crews who have done their time and will heading back stateside very soon to become training staff.

I on other hand have a few days with woody,

The old Dodge dealership in Palouse, Washington, with a 1968 Dodge Polara 500 still parked outside.

Very pleased to catch up with the Bessemer & Lake Erie's remaining tunnel motor sitting outside their shops in Greenville PA. I made a diversion here while driving from MD to MI in hopes of seeing it.

The 905 began life as a SD45T-2, built for the St Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) railroad (a subsidiary of Southern Pacific.) It was rebuilt as a SD40T-3 in 1999 for the BLE, along with a number of other "T'"s. The rest have been shipped off to other parts of Canadian National's network (the BLE being a subsidiary of CN.)

Tunnel motors are cool (pun intended) - you can find a nice write up on them here that explains that black rectangle at the back and the extraordinary length.

Bij toeval fietste ik achterom bij de Fokker Terminal waar ik een schitterend gebied ontdekte waar skaters en graffiti-artiesten vrij hun gang konden gaan. Dit schijnt al 10 jaar te bestaan.

In this video I have put together the images from Josh Foley's Longford Motor Racing Mural with a description of the historic street circuit in 1963. The cars raced around this track from 1953-1968, in conditions unimaginable today.

As you'll see in this historic footage there were minimal safety barriers, the drivers wore helmets no bigger than bicycle helmets, and some chose not to wear safety harnesses in the belief that it would enable a quicker getaway in case of fire.

Two drivers were killed in practice at Longford over the years, including a young rising star of the Grand Prix circuit, American Timothy Mayer. Neil Kearney was there as a schoolboy when it all happened, and here he recounts his harrowing tale: neilkearney.net.au/that-fateful-friday-afternoon-at-longf...

New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren (a Formula 1 team bears his name today) wrote an epitaph for Mayer that sadly fitted his own death at Goodwood, England in 1970:

"The news that he died instantly was a terrible shock to all of us. But who is to say that he had not seen more, done more and learned more in his 26 years than many people do in a lifetime? It is tragic, particularly for those left. Plans half-made must now be forgotten and the hopes must be rekindled. Without men like Tim, plans and hopes mean nothing. To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. I can’t say these things well, but I know this is what I feel to be true. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability. Life is measured in terms of achievement, not in years alone."

On this video we are guided around the track by Australian driver Lex Davison. Two years later at Sandown in Melbourne, Davison was killed in another practice run at just 42 years of age. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lex_Davison

This was an era of heroic men in still relatively primitive motor sport conditions. Some would have called them foolhardy, others courageous. Either way, they fit the perfect Greek description of a hero.

It is a wonderful thing that artist Josh Foley has been able to remind us of this moment in time.

Originally built as the Phoenix Cotton Mill in 1881, the building would eventually go on to become the site where the Marathon Automobile lineup would be made from 1910 to 1914 when production would cease. While parts would continue to be made until 1918, the building would under go several ownership changes until Barry Walker purchased it in 1986, and over the last 33 years, has transformed the building into a space for artist and photographer studios, offices, radio station and salons, as well as restaurants, retail stores, & a museum dedicated the Marathon Motor Works. 1-13-19

Ruins of the old Packard Motors Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

Designed by legendary industrial architect Albert Kahn and built in 1907, the plant produced Packards into the mid-1950's, by which time stagnant design concepts, executive mis-management, and an ill-advised acquisition of the Studebaker company led to the demise of the company.

Amazingly, the shell of this absolutely enormous old manufacturing complex still sits abandoned. Over 40 acres of land in urban detroit, dormant for over 50 years. What's in this picture, as far as the eye can see, is still less than half of the entire complex. Staggering.

For me the bus scene in Gwynedd has never been the same since the demise of Express Motors. There was no real standardisation and you just never knew what was going to turn up on any given route, such as the time I travelled from Caernarfon to Porthmadog on an open top VR on route 1, most definitely not an open top route though the scenery certainly warranted it. I missed KMP, Silver Star and Padarn Bus when they disappeared, but it was Express Motors I mourned the loss of most of all, a victim of their own unethical practices, but having been around since 1908 in one form or another you kind of got the feeling they wouldn't really go! Here former Arriva London DLA LG52 DBU and former Arriva Midlands Volvo Olympian R624 MNU are pictured together in the main Penygroes depot almost two years before the company's licence was revoked with effect from 31st December 2017.
