I love the textures, lines, fluidity and movement in this woven metal basket. Once I take a photo of one of our "commonplace" things around the house, I begin seeing its beauty and appreciate it at a new level. Almost like a friend. Hope this isn't the first sign of becoming a "hoarder!"

This photo of sheep running was also taken on the farm in Moorreesburg. But here I needed a fast shutter speed to stop the motion of the running sheep. Because of the trees casting their shadow on the running sheep I had to do a bit of Photoshop.
In Adobe Camera Raw I increase the shadows by much and decreased the highlights almost completely. This increased the dynamic range of the photo to counter the shade of the trees on the sheep.
This photo was taken in December 2014 with a Canon 5D MkIII and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.

I have a fan/light combination. The one on the right with the bell shaped end turns on the fan. The one on the left turns on the light. I cropped closely so as to get them in the 3 inch boundary. I like how the small beads on the right turned into lines when I swung the chain.

... and thank you very much for your views, faves and comments! :-)
what if the lights are turned on, moving and shaking at the same time. Motion blur, not easy but funny to do...

Flock In Motion. © Copyright 2019 G Dan Mitchell - all rights reserved.
A motion-blurred photograph of a large flock of geese against winter dawn sky.
A day of bird photography usually begins and ends in darkness. I arrive at least a half hour before sunrise and stay until it is too dark to photograph. A lot of interesting things happen at the edges of the day, and I will miss them if I'm not out there and ready to photograph at those times. Aside from making for very early wake-up calls and rather long days, this creates some photographic challenges. Chief among them is how to photograph distant subjects, typically in motion, in very low light. There are many approaches to working in these conditions, but this photograph illustrates one of them.
I made the photograph during the period when the earth's shadow is visible along the horizon — around sunrise or sunset and opposite the sun when it is still just below the horizon. There was too little light for a shutter speed that could stop the motion of the birds as they took to the sky. One of my strategies is to "go with the blur," and make photographs that abstract the subject by allowing for — and embracing! — motion blur. I lower the ISO, close the aperture a bit, lengthen the exposure, and track the flock's overall motion... with the expectation that details will be lost. In the end it seems to me that such photographs can evoke the wild motion of these flocks.

I know the blur is rather present but I really liked the effect it made :)
A little bit on the fence with this one. I really like the subject and splash but because the waves are pushing the ice chunk to shore it made some motion blur. It was such a great experience to see these iceblocks wash to shore.

I was so bored and all of a sudden, a great idea popped into my head! So I made this video by taking over 600 pictures over the course of 4 hours. And than it comes out to be a minute and 29 seconds long. How disheartening. I like it though.
