This was taken near Mosier, Oregon. The sky detail was enhanced, as it wasn't as dynamic after I downloaded the image.

The Columbia River Gorge is a canyon of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest . Up to 4,000 feet (1,200 m) deep, the canyon stretches for over 80 miles (130 km) as the river winds westward through the Cascade Range forming the boundary between the State of Washington to the north and Oregon to the south. Extending roughly from the confluence of the Columbia with the Deschutes River in the east down to the eastern reaches of the Portland metropolitan area, the water gap furnishes the only navigable route through the Cascades and the only water connection between the Columbia River Plateau and the Pacific Ocean.

Oh the magic of this marvelous piece of software never cease to amaze me. I am so much more comfortable with it as compared to three years ago. And I am still learning every day. Picture has been de-poled, straightened and fixed in general.

I thought that this looked like an interesting composition, and the morning lighting was likewise fairly good, so I stopped for pictures.

I spent al little time at Little Zigzag Creek this morning, before the temperature hit 100º. There was occasional cloud cover interspersed with brillient sunlight mingling with the trees. It was a good day to be on the slopes of Mount Hood.

I have been having trouble printing pictures lately. I have to lighten them up quite a but from how they first look, despite having calibrated my printer, and, I thought, my monitor, (although I had to do it based on how my prints look. Well, I finally got my ColorMunki working properly. It turns out that my computer does not like special characters in the file names of the icc profiles. I removed the underscore in the name, and it worked flawlessly. Not I can print with wild abandon.

This negative has sat in a binder for 21 years, but I got it out today, and decided to see what I could make of it. I chose to keep it subtle, and as close as possible to what I saw there. I think the picture was taken in early June.

This is from about 2 years ago. 2018 was a productive year for my photography. Having access to all of those wonderfully delapidated houses was especially fun. The Substation Fire, and a few other recent fires burned down a few of these beauties, but I managed to capture them to present here.

Mosier, Oregon sits at a low point in a fold in the Earth's crust. It's quite the geological wonder. At this spot, just west of the town, the anticline splits into three tiers. I took this from about a mile away using a really long lens.

I never photographed this mill in the summer until yesterday. I stopped by on my way to Astoria (via I-5, and the bridge at Longview). I was trying to see if using the I-205 to I-5 to Longview to Oregon route was faster than just driving up Route 30 in Oregon. The jury is still out on whether it is faster, but I did get this picture on the way.

Old fence in a field of balsam root wildflowers near Mosier, Oregon in Wasco County on old highway 30 in the Columbia River Gorge.

On the way out to the Dalles Mountain Ranch in way down southern Washington State, just up north of Oregon, over in the Eastern Columbia Gorge, which is centrally located in the Pacitic Northwest, there’s this cattle chut that looks like it’s still in use. On a fine summer day, I decided that infrared was the way to go when photographing it. The lens flare was an added bonus

My cousin Melisma wanted to do something nice for a friend of hers and had him pick out a shot from my stream. You can imagine my joy when he picked this shot that I posted 5 years ago which was one of the first attempts at blending images of which I am not very good at ( and still not good at).Spent 5 hours re-editing it so we could blow it up 24x36 and print it on metal. I baked in a lot of my sharpening back then so I had to go back to the raw files and start from scratch. I am happy with the new edit and he is happy with his print so overall, today was a good day

Gaia and I went to the Oregon Coast again on September 1st. Since we live closer now, we plan to spend more time there.

This is the view from Cape Foulweather. It’s one of those interesting place names that pepper the American West. Some of my other favorite names are Deadman Pass, Cape Disappointment, Starvation Creek, and Mount Defiance. We happened upon Cape Foulweather during a time of fairly pleasant weather. Some fluffy clouds for the sunset would have been nice, but the weather for which the cape got its name is no fun at all. We were indeed blessed.

It was a real knock-down, drag-em-out storm, as I remember. This was a few years ago. I had my first dgital camera for about a month, and I used it to not miss interesting, but fleeting images. In this case, we had some warning, but I didn’t want to be more than a few feet from the car just in case the heavens opened up mayhem upon the land, and our heads.

Don't think of it as an SD70M covered in graffiti but rather an SD70M with full body tattoos. UP ITAG4 30

The smell of moisture on rain soaked moss permeates the air while a light drizzle soaks every surface, then suddenly the sound of what could be diesels working in unison faintly begins to grow, but could it be? We’ve been fooled so many times before but then again we did see the westbound depart The Dalles over 20 minutes ago, so I begin to wonder, am I hearing things because the traffic speeding along I-84 can play tricks on my mind as we eagerly await. Then the sound begins to grow slowly but steadily and then we notice the headlight reflecting off the rails and we know the anticipation is over…

The clouds parted just in time to capture UP 7652 West nipping at the heels of ZG2BR 11 which passed through here roughly 15 minutes before its arrival. To the right 7652, lying on the ground, is one of three replacement signals waiting for an unceremonious installation which will “signal” the end for the classic searchlights protecting Mosier siding.
