As my true friend and loyal sharkback rider underwater, I am saving my Shark from this giant Mosasaurus, before he gets to be a dinner and I follow him as a dessert...lol.

Since classical antiquity, Maastricht's Sint-Pietersberg has been noted for its high-quality lime- or marlstone. Its mines are famous, too, for the first discovery there in the late eighteenth century of a fossilised Mosasaur, a huge marine reptile which lived in or near the Meuse River 70 million years ago. Before that - say, between 130 to 80 million years ago - Bees had developed. Perhaps among them were forebears of our Halictus scabiose which lusts after Centaurea scabiosa, also a denizen of limestone and lime-rich soil. Both this Bee and Wildflower are relatively rare but can be found on this Mount if you watch for them.
In de jaren twintig werd de eerste cementfabriek neergezet, door de Naamloze Vennootschap Eerste Nederlandsche Cement Industrie, waaruit de naam ENCI-groeve voortkomt. In de tientallen jaren die volgen, breidt de productie zich uit, in 1948 wordt afgesproken dat de kalksteengroeve nog 60 jaar door kan gaan. Met het besluit dat er nu ligt, sluit de mergelgroeve in 2018. Dan wordt deze grotendeels aan de natuur teruggegeven. Met daarbij een heleboel mogelijkheden voor liefhebbers om het gebied te bezoeken. De kalk uit de groeve is een belangrijke grondstof voor de cementproductie. Met de groei van de mergelwinning werd de ENCI-groeve van grote waarde voor de arbeidsmarkt in de omgeving van Maastricht. Later werd de historische waarde ontdekt. In de groeve zijn grote aantallen fossielen gevonden, waaronder dat van de Mosasaurussen.

Used the old Mosasaurus jaw piece as the seed part to make a Cubone-like, stocky character. Was very glad to be able to use what little dark orange I have - thank god for those 2x6 curved slope wedges! I've recently found them to be incredibly useful for organic characters.

Batman would feel right at home there. The Kanne cave complex in Belgium is an ingenious maze of corridors between 2 mountains and is unique in the world. Millions years ago, the famous Mosasaurus lived here in this area. A Dinosaur that you would not like to encounter in a dark corner of the Sea during a nightmare, but this aside. Part of this cave system has half collapsed and it is strictly forbidden to stay in that part without a special guide person. It is really dangerous there.That hasn't stopped a number of mountain runners from turning it into an illegal cafe and there are also the horror stories of people who have grabbed bats in the hand and contracted rabies. Dangerous drugs that cause psychosis were also found there. You can easily get lost in the dark while the bats sometimes fly over you and the caves have the scariest crawling insects in the holes. Well, a bad trip is quite conceivable. Some young people who stayed there illegally have even conjured up ghosts and ran there for hours in sheer panic. Yes, the caves appeal to everyone's imagination. Nowadays you can get married there, drink a beer, drink mushroom soup and eat rice cake. Kanne Cave complex is also a popular filming location for film makers. For example, The Dance of the Pharaoh was shot there once and another movie Day of the Blood Moon was recorded not long ago. Well You will think what a bizarre cave complex it is. Well, it can get even crazier. For a TV program and calender 6 Dutch women were undressed at the cave for a bodypaint photoshoot. The then naked women were part of a action group against animal testing. All in all I can say that it is a very special cave side with a lot of history that is definitely worth visiting with a guide in the summer months

Batman zou zich er echt prima thuis voelen. De grotten van Kanne in België zijn ingenieuze gangenstelsels tussen 2 bergen. Echt uniek in de wereld. Hier werd decennia lang mergel gewonnen. Miljoenen jaren daar weer voor leefde hier zelfs de bekende Mosasaurus. Een Dinosaurus die je niet graag in een donker hoekje van de zee zou tegen willen komen tijdens een nachtmerrie, maar dit terzijde. Een deel van dit grottenstelsel is gedeeltelijk ingestort en het is ten strengste verboden om in dat gedeelte zonder begeleiding te vertoeven. Dat heeft een aantal berglopers er niet van weerhouden om juist daar een illegaal café in te maken. Er is ook wel eens brand gestoken door jongeren en er zijn de griezelverhalen van mensen die vleermuizen in de hand hebben gepakt en hondsdolheid hebben gekregen. Bij de ontmaskering van het café is er zelfs drugs aangetroffen die psychoses veroorzaken. Je kan er makkelijk verdwalen in het donker terwijl de vleermuizen er over je heen vliegen en er in de spelonken de engste kruipende insecten zitten. Tja een bad trip is dan best goed denkbaar. Jongeren die daar illegaal verbleven, gingen zelfs geesten opgeroepen en in pure paniek hebben ze er verdwaald urenlang rondgelopen. Ja, deze grotten spreken tot ieders verbeelding. Tegenwoordig kun je er trouwen, een biertje drinken, een rijstevlaai eten en champignonsoep drinken. Het grottencomplex is ook een populaire filmlocatie voor filmmakers. Zo is daar ooit The Dance of the Pharaoh opgenomen en is niet lang geleden een andere film opgenomen, Day of the Blood Moon. Tja, je zult denken wat een bizarre grot is dat. Nou, het kan nog gekker. Voor een tv-programma gingen 6 Nederlandse vrouwen uit de kleren in de grotten voor een bodypaint playmate kalender fotoshoot. De naakte vrouwen daar maakten deel uit van een actiegroep tegen dierproeven. Al met al kan zeker wel geconcludeerd worden dat het een heel bijzonder grottenstelsel is met veel historie die in de zomermaanden zeker de moeite waard is om met een gids te bezoeken.

You might think it strange to describe this dinosaur as endangered. However, it is one of 30 Grade I Listed sculptures of dinosaurs on display in Crystal Palace Park, London, that are now over 160 years old and have just been added to the Historic England 'At Risk' Register as the life-size creations are developing cracks and other signs of decay. So having become extinct 66 million years ago, it could happen all over again!
Commissioned in 1852 to accompany the Crystal Palace after its move from the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, they were unveiled in 1854 as the first dinosaur sculptures in the world. Now considered inaccurate according to current understanding, the replicas were at the cutting edge of scientific knowledge at the time.
Mosasaurus was among the last of the mosasaurids, and among the largest. As with most mosasaurids, the legs and feet of Mosasaurus were modified into flippers, and the front flippers were larger than the hind flippers. The largest known species, M. hoffmanni reached lengths up to 17 m. It existed during the Maastrichtian age of the late Cretaceous period, between about 70 and 66 million years ago, in western Europe, North America, and possibly Japan and New Zealand

LEGO DINO is a 144 pages book done in collaboration with Florent Goussard, a paleontologist working at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. It is a real scientific book about dinosaurs illustrated by my pictures and the great drawings of Patrick Biesse.
The concept is simple : a book for all ages that talks about the dinosaurs and also the paleontologist job. Most of the time it takes the shape of a paleontologist's field notebook, the paleontologist showing to kids his personal notebook, reading it, is almost like having the chance to watch Dinos in the flesh.
I’m still struggling to keep up with a daily build now that school’s back in session, but I’m still having fun with this series—so I guess I’ll keep going into September!
Today’s build was inspired by one key seed part—and I bet you can guess what that is. 😉 I think the brushes work swell for the Mosasaur’s jaws, but integrating the aqua blue was a challenge. If only I had more specialized bricks in that color....
Although I enjoyed building this aquatic reptile, my favorite part was building the squids.
