Jake & Dinos Chapman
The Chapman Brothers' artwork is provocative, and the two are obviously on a mission of shocking their audience. Under the surface, however, their work revolves around complex issues, ultimately concerned with the essence of the human experience, which reveals larger and deeper analyses of society's relationship with religion, violence, sexuality, and morality.
Big Buddha, located at the village of Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, in the Island District, Hong Kong.
Officially known as The Tian Tan Buddha, is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. The statue is sited near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith and is a major centre of Buddhism.
The statue's base is a model of the Altar of Heaven or Earthly Mount of Tian Tan, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. One of the five large Buddha statues in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar. Surrounding it are six smaller bronze statues known as "The Offering of the Six Devas" that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha. These symbolise the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, all of which are necessary for enlightenment.
The statue is 34 metres (112 ft) tall, weighs over 250 metric tons (280 short tons), and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel framework inside to support the heavy load. Reputedly the figure can be seen across the bay from as far away as Macau on a clear day. Visitors must climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha, though the site also features a small winding road for vehicles to accommodate the handicapped. The Buddha's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction, while the left rests open on his lap in a gesture of generosity. He faces north, which is unique among the great Buddha statues, as all others face south.
There are also three floors beneath the statue: the halls of the Universe, of Benevolent Merit and of Remembrance. One of the most renowned features inside is a relic of Gautama Buddha, consisting of some of his alleged cremated remains. Only visitors who purchase an offering for the Buddha can see the relic, entering to leave it there. There is a huge carved bell inscribed with images of Buddhas in the show room. It was designed to ring every seven minutes, 108 times a day, symbolising the release of 108 kinds of human vexations.
The Big Buddha was constructed beginning in 1990, and was finished on 29 December 1993, which the Chinese recognise as the day of the Buddha's enlightenment. When the statue was completed, monks from around the world were invited to the opening ceremony. Distinguished visitors from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United States all took part in the proceedings.

Arab Ronda Baths, of Moorish period (s. XIII-XIV), are located in the area of the old Jewish quarter and, despite their extraordinary architectural interest they were abandoned (Christian morality did not permit certain practices), and flooding of the river Guadalevín eventually buried them. When the Duchess of Parcent ordered the construction of gardens in this area, they appeared his first rest, although they were disregarded until in 1935 the site was purchased by the state. Excavations so far have allowed rescue the three bathrooms (cold, warm and hot) and covered with barrel vaults (pierced with star-shaped skylights), which are connected by arches. They also retain some of the boilers and water conveyance systems.
Have full preserve the uniqueness of its structure, with different rooms and facilities that organized, being the largest and best preserved in the Iberian Peninsula. Interestingly they stood outside the city walls.

There is a new SiFi sim in town!
My old friend Kitten Caboose from those cool peeps over at The Grove Art Center has created this unique futuristic environment, really well laid out with some superb details.
I was lucky enough get to do a shoot in the Kidd way going BIG, last week. While my interpretation strays from the builders intended storyline a tad, I had a blast making my frames!

The Sims Story Per the creator:
The story of Three Finger Pines:
Once a thriving, green world, the planet Seva was rich with towering flora. But centuries of unchecked consumerism, pollution, and climate collapse shattered its natural balance. The soil turned sterile; the skies choked with toxins.
The Seravarian race emerged from this collapse, desperate to save what remained of their dying world. They launched a small fleet of ships into the galaxy, searching for planets with atmospheres that echoed their lost home. One such vessel crash-landed on Earth—deep within an isolated region of Canada’s boreal forest known as Three Finger Pines.
Remote and largely untouched, Three Finger Pines is a land of towering pines, sprawling wetlands, and near-complete isolation. To the Seravarians, it was a living memory of what Seva once was.
They have not come to resettle Earth, but to learn from its biosystem. By studying the region’s genetic blueprints—its plants, spores, and soil—they hope to unlock the secrets needed to reawaken Seva’s long-lost ecosystem.

Introduction
Almighty God says, "Born into such a filthy land, man has been severely blighted by society, he has been influenced by feudal ethics, and he has been taught at “institutes of higher learning.” The backward thinking, corrupt morality, mean view on life, despicable philosophy, utterly worthless existence, and depraved lifestyle and customs—all of these things have severely intruded upon man’s heart, and severely undermined and attacked his conscience. As a result, man is ever more distant from God, and ever more opposed to Him. Man’s disposition becomes more vicious by the day, and there is not a single person who will willingly give up anything for God, not a single person who will willingly obey God, nor, moreover, a single person who will willingly seek the appearance of God. Instead, under the domain of Satan, man does nothing but pursue pleasure, giving himself over to the corruption of the flesh in the land of mud. Even when they hear the truth, those who live in darkness give no thought to putting it into practice, nor are they inclined to seek out God even if they have beheld His appearance. How could a mankind so depraved have any chance of salvation? How could a mankind so decadent live in the light?"
Eastern Lightning, The Church of Almighty God was created because of the appearance and work of Almighty God, the second coming of the Lord Jesus, Christ of the last days. It is made up of all those who accept Almighty God's work in the last days and are conquered and saved by His words. It was entirely founded by Almighty God personally and is led by Him as the Shepherd. It was definitely not created by a person. Christ is the truth, the way, and the life. God's sheep hear God's voice. As long as you read the words of Almighty God, you will see God has appeared.
“Sunshine and warm water seem to me to have full meaning only when they come after winter's bite; green is not so green if it doesn't follow the months of brown and gray. And the scheduled inevitable death of green carries its own exhilaration; in that change is the promise of all the rebirths to come, and the deaths, too. ... Without the year's changes, for me, there is little morality.”
― John Graves, Goodbye to a River: A Narrative
I took this photo last month, just finally getting around to posting it.
Fourth version of my self-moc Aegnor, Toa of Fire, Knight of the Realm.
A bit of backstory:
Aegnor was given a lightless Kanohi Avohkii by the God Martaku - the Artakha of my universe - as a matoran, along with a fire stone, which both contributed to transform him into a Toa.
Aegnor can control his elemental powers and use them as he likes. However, like all toas, he must recharge his power once he uses them.
His Lightless Kanohi Avohkii, instead of giving him light powers, increases his sense of morality and makes him less attracted or corruptible by the shadow leeches or shadow forces.
Like Takanuva, his Avohkii permits him to sense morality and the hearts of others. Yet, because of the lack of light in this mask, these secondary powers quickly developed and became the primary powers of the mask.
Now, Aegnor can activate his Kanohi to bring understanding to the hearts of others and sense their intentions. It can thus bring Aegnor to identify the nature of one's intentions as soon as he meets them.
It was this way Aegnor was able to defeat opponents who acted as agents of the light, when truly, they were motivated by greed, selfishness or destruction.

The Thiruvalluvar Statue in Kanyakumari
The Thiruvalluvar Statue, or the Valluvar Statue, is a 133-feet (40.6 m) tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Tiruvalluvar, author of the Tirukkural, an ancient Tamil work on secular ethics and morality. It is located atop a small island near the town of Kanyakumari on the southernmost point of the Indian peninsula on the Coromandel Coast, where two seas (the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea) and an ocean (the Indian Ocean) meet. The statue was sculpted by the Indian sculptor Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati, who also created the Iraivan Temple, and was unveiled on the millennium day of 1 January 2000 by the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Keeping Holy the Holy days in Havana's Cathedral
The interior of the Cathedral is relatively austere and neoclassical rather than baroque, thanks to a radical 19th-century neoclassical makeover. The vaulted ceilings and the massive stone pillars are still there and the frescoes above the altar, painted by the Italian artist Giuseppe Perovani, date from the late 1700s ; the paintings and other frescoes that adorn the side walls, are copies of originals by Murillo and Rubens, painted by the French painter J.Baptiste Vermay.

I came across one of the very first photomontages ever created. It was called "The Two Ways of Life," an allegorical work created by Oscar Gustave Rejlander in 1857. I couldn't resist its charm and so I have used it in this image.
“I do not dispute with the world; rather it is the world that disputes with me.” Buddha.
On my last morning in Hong Kong, I decided to change my plan and I revisited one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, the spectacular Tian Tan Buddha, which was built in bronze in 1993 on a mountain in Lantau Island. To get there, I had to make a long way on the subway from my hostel, plus the cable car ride from the last metro stop. Going soon in the morning is the best thing to avoid lines in the cable car , and although I did it, when I arrived neither the light nor the sky were good. I had already been here on my first visit and I knew an interesting composition, but despite I photographed it again, I´ve decided not to publish any image since I´m not totally satisfied with them. Who knows... maybe I'll have the opportunity to return someday to try to photograph it at the blue hour.
Still, I did not want to leave the place without a picture for my portfolio, so after eating at a nearby temple a vegetarian food too spicy for what I can tolerate, I climbed the 240 steps leading to the Buddha and to the six smaller statues that surround him. This set of female figures is known as "The Offering of the Six Devas," that symbolize the six perfections (generosity, morality, patience, enthusiasm, meditation and wisdom) considered necessary by Buddhism to attain enlightenment. After trying several compositions, I decided to concentrate on these two statues, because I loved the low clouds that covered the mountain behind. I had to be patient since the sun was most of the time covered by clouds and many people were taking selfies with the statues, but in the end I was able to get the image I wanted. It may not be an exceptional shot, but I think it reflects the somewhat mystical beauty of these statues and of the place where they are located.

Just recently the new U.S. Interior Secretary visited Yosemite National Park. This is a quote from many of the media outlets “No harassment allowed at National Parks” Today 4-25-17, harassment is still allowed in Yosemite. Is this just another government official posturing?
Here in Yosemite we have a community lacking in compassion, morality, any sense of consequence and self-control. It’s ok to lash out, harass and stalk; anyone exposing waste, incompetence, corruption and cover-up.

Assassin's Creed: Venice 1486 - Chapter 1 - Osservare
So this is where i worked on for the past 3years (on and of). Approximately 3000 hours and 250.000 parts later I present to you with great pride and incredible detail; Venice 1486 as it might have looked in the 15th century.
This is the first chapter of a total of 4, in which I'll take you into an adventure of Darion as a Master Assassin.
Let me know what you think 🙏
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Osservare" in the English tongue better known as Observing. By far the most boring thing about finding your mark, but absolutely necessary.
Meet 'Darion Aiulf da Fortebraccio' and his eyes and ears in the sky 'Gaita' an Italian barn owl. Darion is a Venetian nobleman, and to others unknown also a Master Assassin and former member of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins.
Abandoned by his brothers and mentor for disobedience. He now is a solitary assassin that seeks his targets through the signs of god. For his next mark, faith steered Darion in the direction of the Templar order. Who now have a foothold on Venice city grounds and even managed to get the newly elected doge 'Marco Barbarigo' on their side. Marco openly expressed his support for the Templar Order...
And so this is where our story begins!
Where other men blindly follow the truth, Remember, nothing is true.
Where other men are limited by morality or law, Remember, everything is permitted.
We work in the dark to serve the light.
We are assassins!

The last room of the palace is the famous Tapestry Gallery, named after the series of Flemish tapestries
are kept here and are its main attraction, together with the rich stucco decoration of the ceiling and the canvases on the upper part of the walls.
On display in the room are 6 of the 7 Flemish-made tapestries woven in the second half of the 1500s in
Brussels and arrived on the island in 1787, given to Count Giberto V by his uncle Cardinal Vitaliano VII; it is not clear how they came into his possession, but it seems that they were part of the collection of Cardinal Mazarin, minister to Louis XIII, who is said to have acquired them in turn from the family of the Cardinal of Lorraine Charles de Guise. These previous illustrious owners would explain the exceptional quality of the tapestries, woven in threads of wool, silk, gold and silver, and also the choice of the religious theme hidden under the veil of allegory.
The theme of all tapestries is that of Christian morality, of Sin and Redemption, of the eternal struggle between Good and Evil, and above each tapestry, within a border that is repeated almost the same in all 7, a cartouche with verses taken from the Bible or other religious works helps to understand the meaning of the scene depicted. Everything is rendered through images in which man does not appear at all; the living beings represented are only animals in scenes of everyday life, thus often in the act of hunting and killing other animals, but also in moments of tenderness towards their young. Evil is
represented by wild or mythical animals such as the unicorn, which, it should be noted, is obviously not the unicorn synonym of purity used as one of the most important symbols on the family coat of arms that the highest terrace of the grand Italian gardens that await us once we cross the threshold.
The Search For Validation. 💟
Last time I checked, there wasn’t a scale for kindness, morality or sense of humour. There wasn’t a grade system for your ability to be swept away inside a beautiful song, or a book, or a poem. There’s no number that can be assigned to the impact your art can have on others, or the way your lover holds you when you come home defeated after a bad day.
I love social media, and I think it can bring all kinds of beautiful things into people’s lives - connection, art, sharing someone else’s joys, the bond of humanity across cultures. Social media essentially brought me a career in something I love, so I owe social media quite a lot.
That said, I’ve found it quite difficult to separate my art from the number that sits next to it. I’ve struggled with not questioning myself when faced with 200+ souls clicking a button to unfollow my work each time I share a new piece. Social media is rewiring us to find our validation in our phone screens, and I can promise you - it’s not there.
I’ve decided to start up a blog - somewhere with no measurements or numbers - to put all my thoughts and behind the scenes. My first post is the making of this image, as well as my journey of social media, and how it’s affected my self esteem. It feels exciting to be taking care of my “art & soul” (see what I did there?) a bit better!
It was sweet and funny at the same time. She was terrified to go to the edge of the cliff, yet she never put the yogurt down. Instincts, instincts. A Freudian case study at its best.
I wonder how many of us forget that we mostly are like our closest cousins - animals - instinctive beings without our ability to think.
Is it because of that one oxygen molecule difference between our cell surface and that of animals (Neu5Ac vs. Neu5Gc), or is it because the Darwinian theory is flawless in its entirety. We will come infinitesimally close to explaining it, but I doubt we will ever conclude.
To say that scientific research will reach a definitive answer for the basis of our cognitive skills, morality, spirituality, our ability to love or commit suicide is as impossible as being able to define infinity as a real number.
Does it really matter, though? Certainly not as we go on with our daily lives, but most of us often forget about the chance of existing as a human in an infinite universe.
"I would tell you about the things they put me through
The pain I've been subjected to
But the Lord himself would blush
The countless feasts laid at my feet
Forbidden fruits for me to eat
But I think your pulse would start to rush
Now I'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things I do
But before you come to any conclusions
Try walking in my shoes
Try walking in my shoes
You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments I kept
If you try walking in my shoes
If you try walking in my shoes
Morality would frown upon
Decency look down upon
The scapegoat fate's made of me
But I promise now, my judge and jurors
My intentions couldn't have been purer
My case is easy to see
I'm not looking for a clearer conscience
Peace of mind after what I've been through
And before we talk of any repentance
Try walking in my shoes
Try walking in my shoes
You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments I kept
If you try walking in my shoes

That morning, as predicted, 4th of December 2008, close to the city centre, it started to snow heavily, because of the cold spell we’d experienced, in no time it was a different world.
I love the silence that comes with it...
I was up and about, rushing from window to window... (morality of this story?
Always see that your windows are clean? LOL)
AAAhhh, I just wish it had waited for the festive days, it creates such a peaceful atmosphere.
That was 2008.
the series of Winter photos gathered over the years continues.
I wish you all the very best, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, invites, faves and Awards. Very much appreciated.

In her dreams, Jett hung in the negative space. A realm between realms, neither physical but neither wholly intangible. The vibrant reds of deeds done with axe and blade dragged across her vision as she floated in this nether, mockingly. Despite being somewhat of a sceptic, the woman now watching lives taken and hearts broken racing around her, had always held out hope for something, anything, after this life. Now she was seeing it, up close and personal in the images that flitted, buzzed, and whizzed around her like a raging tornado.
Below her was only darkness, a void, the stark black echoing her own dissociation with morality and goodness. But it was from within this void, this hole in her life, this lacuna of her own making, that the words came:
"With crimson tide, you have summoned us."
"With abject villainy, you have proven yourself."
"With deeds done and lives taken, you are us."
Silence rung for a moment, and then the void spoke the final words:
"Find them. Say these things: The Seal Is Undone, I Am As The Devil Made Me."
And then she awoke, sweating profusely and wide-eyed.

Note: on Feb 6, 2011 I also replaced the original version of this photo with an edited version. The original one was shot as a JPG image, because I had not yet learned the significance of RAW images; and I'm pretty sure I did only the most rudimentary cropping and editing, using iPhoto. I haven't done a whole lot more at this point, other than adjusting the "hot spots" and "cold spots" highlighted by the Aperture photo-editing program that I now use, plus lightening the shadows in the man's pants. Ironically, I had not even seen -- in the original photo -- that he was wearing military-style camouflage pants. Now it's a little more evident...
Moving into 2012, a cropped, reversed, b&w version of this photo was published on the home page of the Lean On Me Outreach website --- which I first noticed in mid-January 2012.
Moving into 2014, the photo was published in a Mar 11, 2014 blog titled "Croydon Council invests £10m to house struggling families."

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.
I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.
For the most part, I've deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...
The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, *far* more people who are *not* so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.
Sir John Cheke (16 June 1514 – 13 September 1557) was an English classical scholar and statesman, notable as the first Regius Professor of Greek at Cambridge University.
The son of Peter Cheke, esquire-bedell of Cambridge University, he was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, where he became a fellow in 1529.[1] While there he adopted the principles of the Reformation. His learning gained him an exhibition from the king, and in 1540, on Henry VIII's foundation of the regius professorships, he was elected to the chair of Greek. Amongst his pupils at St John's were William Cecil, later Lord Burghley, who married Cheke's sister Mary, and Roger Ascham, who in The Scholemaster gives Cheke the highest praise for scholarship and character. Together with Sir Thomas Smith, he introduced a new method of Greek pronunciation very similar to that commonly used in England in the 19th century. It was strenuously opposed in the University, where the continental method prevailed, and Bishop Gardiner, as chancellor, issued a decree against it (June 1542); but Cheke ultimately triumphed.
On 10 July 1544 he was confirmed as tutor to the future King Edward VI of England[2][3], to teach him ‘of toungues, of the scripture, of philosophie and all liberal sciences’ (BL, Cotton MS Nero C.x, fol. 11r). (This source and others have mistakenly placed this appointment in 1554 which is impossible because Edward was already dead by then). After his pupil's accession to the throne he continued in this role. Cheke was active in public life; he sat, as member for Bletchingley, for the parliaments of 1547 and 1552-1553; he was made provost of King's College, Cambridge (1 April 1548), was one of the commissioners for visiting that university as well as the University of Oxford and Eton College, and was appointed with seven divines to draw up a body of laws for the governance of the church. On 11 October 1551 he was knighted; in June 1553 he was made one of the secretaries of state, and joined the privy council.
His zeal for Protestantism led him to follow the Duke of Northumberland, and he filled the office of secretary of state for Lady Jane Grey during her nine days' reign. In consequence, Mary threw him into the Tower of London (27 July 1553), and confiscated his property. He was, however, released on 3 September 1554, and granted permission to travel abroad. He went first to Basel, then visited Italy, giving lectures in Greek at Padua, where he entertained Sir Philip Hoby. He finally settled at Strasbourg, teaching Greek for his living.
In the spring of 1556 he visited Brussels to see his wife; on his way back, between Brussels and Antwerp, he and Sir Peter Carew were seized (15 May) by order of Philip II of Spain, taken to England, and imprisoned in the Tower. Cheke was visited by two priests and by Dr John Feckenham, dean of St Paul's, whom he had formerly tried to convert to Protestantism, and, terrified by the prospect of being burned at the stake, he agreed to be received into the Church of Rome by Cardinal Pole. Overcome with shame, he did not long survive, but died in London, carrying, as Thomas Fuller says (Church History), "God's pardon and all good men's pity along with him." About 1547 Cheke married Mary, daughter of Richard Hill, sergeant of the wine-cellar to Henry VIII, and by her he had three sons. The descendants of one of these, Henry, known only for his translation of an Italian morality play Freewyl (Tragedio del Libero Arbitrio) by Nigri de Bassano, settled at Pyrgo in Essex.
Thomas Wilson, in the epistle prefixed to his translation of the Olynthiacs of Demosthenes (1570), has a long and most interesting eulogy of Cheke; and Thomas Nash, in To the Gentlemen Students, prefixed to Robert Greene's Menaphon (1589), calls him "the Exchequer of eloquence, Sir John Cheke, a man of men, supernaturally traded in all tongues." Many of Cheke's works are still in manuscript, some have been altogether lost. One of the most interesting from a historical point of view is the Hurt of Sedition how greneous it is to a Communeweith (1549), written on the occasion of Ket's rebellion, republished in 1569, 1576 and 1641, on the last occasion with a life of the author by Gerard Langbaine. Others are D. Joannis Chrysostomi homiliae duae (1543), D. Joannis Chrysostomi de providentia Dei (1545), The Gospel according to St Matthew translated (c. 1550; ed. James Goodwin, 1843), De obitu Martini Buceri (1551), (Pope Leo VI's) de Apparatu bellico (Basel, 1554; but dedicated to Henry VIII, 1544), Carmen Heroicum, aut epithium in Antonium Dencium (1551), De pronuntiatione Graecae ... linguae (Basel, 1555). He also translated several Greek works, and lectured admirably upon Demosthenes.
His Life was written by John Strype (1705); additions by J. Gough Nichols in Archaeologia (1860), xxxviii. 98, I27.

Tbilisi - თბილისი - is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Mt'k'vari (Kura) River. Located strategically at the crossroads between Europe and Asia and lying along the historic Silk Road routes, Tbilisi has often been a point of contention between various rival powers and empires. The history of the city can be seen by its architecture, where the Haussmannized Rustaveli Avenue and downtown are blended with the narrower streets of the medieval Narikala district. The demographics of the city are diverse and historically it has been home to peoples from diverse cultures, religions and ethnicities. Despite being overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian, Tbilisi is one of the few places in the world (Sarajevo and Paramaribo being others) where a synagogue and a mosque are located next to each other, in the ancient Bath district several hundred metres from the Metekhi Church.
Metekhi (Metechi; Georgian: მეტეხი) is a historic neighborhood of Tbilisi, Georgia, located on the elevated cliff that overlooks the Mtkvari river. The Metekhi church is a cross-cupola church. While this style was the most common throughout the Middle Ages, the Metekhi church is somewhat anachronistic with its three projecting apses in the east facade and the four freestanding pillars supporting the cupola within. The church is made of brick and dressed stone. The restoration of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries mostly employed brick. The facade is for the most part smooth, with decorative elements concentrated around the windows of the eastern apses.

I believe that human morality, rather than flagrant sin, is the greatest obstacle to the gospel today. If you ask the average law-abiding person why he expects to go to heaven, the answer will be some form of “because I’ve been good.” The rich young ruler (see Matthew 19:16-20), the prodigal son’s older brother (see Luke 15:28-30), and the Pharisee praying in the temple (see Luke 18:9-12) all had this in common: They were confident of their own goodness. Their attitude is replicated throughout our society. And the more religious a person is, the more difficult it is for that person to realize his or her need for the righteousness of Jesus Christ. - Jerry Bridges
