MOPS Social Outreach
Viloux, Haiti
Before Sr. Irene Clare Duval - of the Missionaries of the Poor, Sisters - arrived, Viloux was little more than a collection of dilapidated huts sprinkled throughout a rugged countryside. Through her efforts and the financial support of Cross and its donors the village is being transformed into a thriving community. She started a feeding program at the local school that provides nutritious meals to 200 students five days a week. She pays the salaries of three teachers at the local school so more children could attend. She opened a dispensary so the people would have access to medicine and care when they were sick - something they never had before. She is also planting spiritual seeds, encouraging the villagers to attend mass each week and running a weekly Bible study for the children.
