I started my hike a long time before sunrise to reach this remote spot in time. The reward after a long climb over steep and muddy trails was absolute silence and no other human being or civilization as far as you can see.

This canyon is formed about 9000 years ago caused by the meltwater of the retreating glaciers after the last Ice Age.

The true magic of that place I found inside the canyon. The so-called trail into the canyon ended already after a few meters at the river Fjaðrá. After that point you need good gumboots or a strong resistance against cold water. I wore good gumboots, but after the first river crossing I needed a good resistance too. ;-) The reward after that little struggle was to enjoy the canyon in pure solitude. A truly mystical and powerful nature retreat.

This is a photo I took last November in the Reichenbach valley. I really liked those mossy trees with the sun behind them, as they looked quite old, almost entish.

Time for some more pics from my trip to Iceland back in 2015.

Gjáin...a small, romantic valley with different waterfalls and a stunningly lush vegetation. After discovering the rough and barren highlands for a couple of days, I felt like entering another world when I walked down into this valley.

Der klassische Pfifferling wächst ab Mai und ist einer der ersten wohlschmeckenden Pilzarten, die man finden kann. Er wächst bevorzugt dort, wo es feucht ist, häufig auch im Moos, aber auch im Fichenwaldboden, der von moosigen Stellen durchzogen ist.

A good place to cool down on a hot summer day. The land of fairies and elves is not far away from my hometown. :-)

I took sometimes pictures of rural and agricultural motives also earlier, but while I took these two pictures (this one and the previous uploaded) in 2013 I came up with the idea for the title for the series.

In the middle of the Volcanic Eifel lies the waterfall Dreimühlen - it is considered the most beautiful in the entire region.

It was created about 100 years ago during the construction of the railroad tracks. Since then, it has been growing every year due to lime deposits.

The Ravenna Gorge (German: Ravennaschlucht) is a gorge in the Black Forest in southwest Germany. It is a narrow side valley of the Höllental, through which the Ravenna stream flows. The wild mountain brook of the Ravenna tumbles over several waterfalls in the gorge.

An eventful hiking trail that opens up the charming Simmerbach Valley and is connected to the Soonwaldsteig in the middle section. Expressive rock formations and unforgettable distant views determine the character of the trail on the Soonwald Ridge.

Rushing waterfalls and deep swirling holes, huge boulders and immense rock faces: a visit to the Eistobel Gorge between Oberstaufen and Isny remains unforgettable.

In the search for a suitable position, I almost broke my neck and landed with a trouser leg in the cold water.

But it is summer and the photo and the associated memories of a great weekend with my family have paid off.

It really feels like being in a fairy tale with the mossy rocks on the rapids of Irrel.

We found this mossy signposts on a hill during our trip around cornwall. As I look at it now at the end of the year I get very philosophic spirit about it.

Vogtsbauernhof - Freilichtmuseum Schwarzwald - Gutach

Kirn K2 / Through the Trübenbach valley and around the Habichtskopf. The Trübenbach rises on the plateau near Bergen and runs through a gorge over several smaller waterfalls down to the Hahnenbach.

Bedeckter Himmel, moosiger Wald im Mösli bei Kestenholz, einer meiner Lieblingsorte. Dieser Jungbaum mit altem kupferfarbenen Laub ist mir in dieser tristen Lichtstimmung aufgefallen und ich musste ihn einfach ablichten - mit offener Blende für ein schönes Bokeh :-)

Ein Rotstirnmakis blickt mit stechend blauen Augen in die Tiefe des tropischen Dickichts. Das dichte, rotbraune Fell kontrastiert eindrucksvoll mit dem moosigen Stamm und den Schlingpflanzen des Waldes. Dieses Bild fängt den geheimnisvollen Charakter und die stille Wachsamkeit dieses faszinierenden Lemuren ein.
