A lone man looks out over Lake Superior from Artist's Point in Grand Marais, Minnesota.

Sunrise from Moonscape Overlook near Hanksville. Utah.

A 2a shot to capture the elusive darkness of summertime in the NW corner of Washington state.

My most recent moonscape featuring the prominent Copernicus, Aristarchus and Gassendi craters.

The image has been shot on January 18 from my backyard in Luxembourg. The seeing conditions were pretty good.

It's a crop out of a 6 pane mosaic. For each pane I stacked 20% of about 2.000 frames.

The saturation is increased by a fair amount in order to highlight the mineral composition of the moon's surface.

There aren't any great photo opportunities at the moment, so I've decided to dig into the archives a bit. This photo was taken on a wonderfully sunny autumn day last year, and despite the perfect conditions I only met two other hikers in a span of about five or six hours.

I took this shot because of the moon but after viewing this on my monitor i found an eagle in the tree at the very top of the mountain just under the moon. I will post this shot on some bird sites and see if it passes the bird on a branch requirement.

Over an extended weekend we did a 2000 miles roadtrip from California to Utah and back: destination badlands near Hanksville. We stayed overnight at the Moonscape Overlook. At night it was raining, at times quite heavily. Next morning we were greeted with this muddy moonscape scene. I also took moody shots with clouds at that spot the evening before, which I'll post later.

I processed a balanced, a paintery and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Moonscape Overlook is near Hanksville Utah, just to the east of Factory Butte. The shapes and colors are created by erosion over millions of years. It looks like Moon.

Evening.

Tech Note: The image consists of a single, highly processed photographic exposure. (There is no superposition of elements from other exposures.)

An early morning image of Factory Butte near Hanksville, Utah, taken from a drone hovering over the eroded landscape below Moonscape Overlook.

Here is one of many photos of the high desert in Utah that makes one feel like they are on another planet. This is Snow Canyon State Park, from the Canyon Overlook, May, 2025. As I have mentioned, the state parks near Utah's Big Five are worth a look, this one in St. George near Zion.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max takes much better night photos than the Canon PhotoShot SX70 HS. I enhanced both photos during image post-processing.

This is what I imagine the face of the moon, or Mars to look like. Rugged, structured and literally, otherworldly. Mungo National Park has a series of these structures running through the ancient Aboriginal area called the Walls of China.

This image was captured at sunset facing towards the East, with hints of golden light touching the rugged surface of our Earth.

Utah's most mysterious canyon

A few minutes later (at 7:19 am), the sun had risen behind the clouds and was now faintly illuminating the Valle de la Luna with natural colors.

Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) is a must-see landmark of the Chilean Atacama Desert, located just 13 km west of San Pedro.

The sandstone conglomerates on Rode Island (Rode O) date back millions of years to the Carboniferous/Permian era. The landscape on this geologic anomaly looks more like something you might expect on the moon rather than on one of the most ice-bound regions in the world. Rodefjord, Scoresby Sund, East Greenland.
