As the COVID-19 lockdown gets tighter I'm only going out for exercise and food shopping and not taking the camera out as it's difficult to maintain distance living in London. I'm starting to miss it so things like the houseplants and contents of the fridge are starting to look more appealing but it's also a chance to shift to a slower and more deliberate style of photography which I haven't done so much of in the past.

The Sony Alpha 230 is an entry-level DSLR camera featuring a 10.2-megapixel APS-C CCD sensor.
For this image, a 50mm lens was used, which is ideal for portraits and urban scenes due to its natural perspective and ability to isolate subjects with soft background blur at wide apertures. The ISO 100 setting ensures a clean image with minimal noise, while the 1/15s shutter speed suggests careful handheld shooting or tripod use to avoid camera shake, capturing light in a delicate manner.
The black and white processing was done using Adobe Lightroom and Camera Raw, applying fine adjustments to contrast and exposure to enhance the interplay of light and shadow. The tone curve was refined to balance deep blacks and bright highlights, reinforcing the dramatic mood of the scene. Selective adjustments were applied to key areas to emphasize texture and depth, resulting in an evocative and timeless image.

Photo prise sur la Royal Mile à Edimbourg, au printemps dernier. Un super long week-end et un très joli voyage. Le 1er jour était très nuageux et venteux (il faisait froid !) et j'ai quelques photos avec cette atmosphère typique. Ensuite, les jours suivants ont été ensoleillés..même pas une goutte de pluie...un petit miracle pour un séjour en Ecosse !
J'ai pu tester, lors de ce voyage, mon nouvel objectif : le 27mm f/2.8 Fujinon XF R WR (pancake). Un combo parfait avec le X-T30; léger (et ça, c'est vraiment top en déplacement), agréable et avec un beau piqué, ce qui permet, comme pour cette photo, de recadrer dans l'image sans trop de pertes de qualité.

Photo taken on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh at the last spring. A great long weekend and a very nice trip. The 1st day was very cloudy and windy (it was cold!) and I took some photos with this typical atmosphere. Then, the following days were sunny...not even a drop of rain...a small miracle for a stay in Scotland !
During this trip, I was able to test my new lens : the 27mm f/2.8 Fujinon XF R WR (pancake). A perfect combination with the X-T30 ; very light (and that's really great on holidays), pleasant and with a nice sharpness, which allows, as for this photo, to crop in the image without too much loss of quality.

With the sun obscured and the lights dimmed, just enough remains for the raindrops to kiss the greens, drenching them in a play of chiaroscuro.
Serendipitous find while having a week in Polruan, Cornwall. The steps to what used to be (still is?) an old church were heavily overgrown and the original ironwork on the gates heavily corroded from the high levels of seawater in the air. Unfortunately, the handrail had been replaced with a galvanised steel pole which undoubtedly more functional but difficult to find a nice angle to photograph without it appearing. Late dusk shot and lit from high pressure sodium street lighting.

Tja, ganz schön viele Fotos auf einmal. Allerdings habe ich mich auch schwer damit getan, diese Serie zu zerreißen. Weil sie meiner Meinung nach nur zusammen wirken. Ich war wieder im Moor und wieder kam ich an der Hütte vorbei. Ich hab sie schon mal besucht und etwas abgelichtet. Dieses mal strahlte sie aber das aus, was sie wirklich ist. Ein Unterschlupf. Ein Ort des Treffens. Ein Ort der Geselligkeit. Früher einmal. Jetzt wird das Gelände großflächig saniert und ich schätze, dieses Kleinod wird es dann nicht mehr geben. Und deshalb lasse ich alle Aufnahmen zusammen. Nicht alle Fotos sind perfekt scharf. Aber das stört mich nicht. Die Hütte war ja schließlich auch nicht rausgeputzt. ;-)
