Oops by Roustabout_photo

Sometimes you hear the click and the snap of the shutter when you had no intention of taking a photo. Those all too often times when you have unintentionally advanced the film in a clueless moment. Usually it happens with the Hasselblad and oddly enough I could only put my hands on one of those for this post.

Most times they are terrible and unusable as the photos cut in half at the end of a roll. But then every once in a while you a learn something or maybe you’re reminded that squaring up a photo is not alway the best composition. The first shot I agree is nothing to write home about but the almost 45 degree angle frames the trees and road in a much more interesting way than I would normally compose the shot. I probably wouldn’t have taken this shot because, let’s be honest, it’s really not that interesting … until …

Today’s lesson for me is change your perspective. Sit or lay on the ground turn the camera at oblique angles hold the camera up over a crowd. That old adage learn from your mistakes hold true today!

Now go out and take pictures, make mistakes, have some fun and leave the screen behind for a while.

Ps I read a headline today Elon Musk hates hash tags and wants to ban them on twitter ( I’m not calling it X) so use more hash tags here there and everywhere.

I do look at hashtags and to learn about people in other groups.

My head is often in the clouds when I’m messing about with camera’s. Especially this Kodak Retina IIa.

I confess I don’t always get great photos but I enjoy the experience of shooting it. I consider it an even trade. Note the lack of less than stellar images from this machine has more to do with operator error than mechanical malfunction.

All images were shot using the Hasselblad 500v

Because the Hasselblad has an interchangeable back I decided to shoot two Kodak films. Kodak Portra 400 and Kodak Tri X 400 all on a tripod so the framing and lighting would be identical. Light meter readings were all done using the “Viewfinder “app. More on that later

I’m traditionally a black and white kinda guy but I may be exploring a bit more color after this experiment. Each post will have both version for comparison.

The first time I shot this film stock I thought it was too contrasty and the image’s were flat and I did not really like it very much. This time shooting it’s obvious the problem wasn’t the film… oh well. Let’s just call it progress and I will order more!!

Along the road somewhere by Roustabout_photo

Sometimes there just isn’t anything clever or funny to say.. just picture’s of things you see on the interstate.

Not sure what’s happening with that streak on the first photo. It happened on a few of the negatives. I’m guessing it’s the person ( myself ) who did something in the processing.

Could have nothing to do with using a bellows camera made somewhere between 1951 and 1954.. before I was born.. I know that’s hard to believe.

Still my second favorite user camera.
