The Deep South in winter with a new RETO slim and wide.

I’ve tried Holga’s and a few other cheep plastic cameras and I’m always impressed with people that can make something happen with them as I am with people that can get a good photo from a poloroid. Me not so much. But this cheep plastic camera from now on will always have a place in my camera bag.

I love this thing!!

“Our Lady of Perpetual Labor” by Roustabout_photo

To test the developer Pyrocat I stuck a roll of Arista 400 in the Pentax 6x7 and just blasted off a roll of nothing important. The last time and first time I tried this developer I lost 6 yes six 4x5 negatives. Blank completely blank no emulsion at all on the film.

Being out of my go to developer XTOL I decided to try again.

This photo of the boat shed or “Our Lady of Perpetual Labor” yes any wooden boat person will understand. For the boat and film nerds it’s a 1929 Crown and Shields “Dark Harbor” in the process of a complete restoration! I digress ….

What a great surprise to see that things worked!!! Now I’m still confused why the first attempt went so terribly wrong?

For anyone curious. This is a developer generally recommended for medium and large format films. It’s a staining developer and leaves the negatives a kind of sepia brown. But they scan beautifully however a bit on the dark side. All in all it was a success.
