Former ROC Nuclear Monitoring bunker near Great Doddington, Northants. Over 1500 of these were built across the UK. Their purpose was the monitoring of nuclear blasts and fallout should the Cold War ever turn hot. 4 people would be housed in here along with the equipment needed to monitor the quality of the air outside and report back to central government.
This bunker is relatively intact, if a bit overgrown.

A Heath Monitor in Kur-ring-gai National Park licking his lips with his long forked tongue. Listed as endangered I was lucky to find this little guy especially on my first day back in Australia.
While we were at Nguenya, every afternoon this monitor lizard took a walk past my father in law's patio and I was able to capture this lizard's eye view of his patrol.
Varanus bengalensis, or the Bengal Monitor Lizard. This one was around 45 cm in length: definitely a young one. The adults can grow up to 175 cm in length.
When we arrived in Sepilok at the Sepilok B&B, we quickly explored the premises and found this young Asian water monitor (Varanus salvator) searching along a shallow drain near our cottage.

A team of Common Ground students - Taylor, Kathiana, Eric, Joaquin, Thomas, Lovell, and Eugenio -- work with staff Georgia Basso from the US Fish & Wildlife Service, Corrie Folsom-O'Keefe and Katie Blake from Audubon CT, and Common Ground teachers Karen Climis and Sharon Brostrom to study the impact of habitat restoration efforts on insect biodiversity.
