The Jerónimos Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery is a monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome near the Tagus river in the parish of Belém, in the Lisbon Municipality, Portugal.
The monastery is one of the most prominent examples of the Portuguese Late Gothic Manueline style of architecture in Lisbon. It was classified a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the nearby Tower of Belém, in 1983.
The construction of the monastery and church began on 6 January 1501, and was completed 100 years later.
The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the southwestern Rila Mountains, 117 km (73 mi) south of the capital Sofia in the deep valley of the Rilska River at an elevation of 1,147 m (3,763 ft) above sea level, inside of the Rila Monastery Nature Park. The monastery is named after its founder, the hermit Ivan of Rila (876 - 946 AD).
Polovragi Monastery was founded before 1505 in Polovragi commune, Gorj County, Romania. It is a convent for nuns and the dedication day is 15 August, “Assumption of the Virgin”. The monastery is located in a picturesque setting at the feet of the mountain “Piatra Polovragilor”, in the vicinity of the Oltet Gorge.
The city of Alcobaça became notable after the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, decided to build a church to commemorate the Conquest of Santarém from the Moors in 1147. The church later evolved into the Monastery of Alcobaça, one of the most magnificent gothic monuments in the country. In the church are the tombs of Pedro I of Portugal and his murdered mistress Inês de Castro. Over the centuries this monastery played an important role in shaping Portuguese culture.
The first monastery complex, which the visitor first meets, coming from Rethymnon, is the Kato Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodomos , which is ruined. It is located near Megalos Potamos river and the arched bridge of the area. It is a irregular set of buildings with a central courtyard, in the center of which you can see the church of St. John the Baptist. The church is surrounded by the buildings that housed the dining room, the cooking room, the abbot room, the cells, an olive oil press, warehouses, etc. The monastery was formerly used all year round, as the surrounding areas were ideal for cultivation and farming. However, it was later abandoned, as it was destroyed and looted several times by the various conquerors of Crete.

Humor Monastery located in Mănăstirea Humorului, about 5 km north of the town of Gura Humorului, Romania. It is a monastery for nuns dedicated to the Dormition of Virgin Mary, or Theotokos. It was constructed in 1530 by Voievod Petru Rareş and his chancellor Teodor Bubuiog. The monastery was built over the foundation of a previous monastery that dated from around 1415. The Humor monastery was closed in 1786 and was not reopened until 1990.
Humor was one of the first of Moldavia's painted monasteries to be frescoed and, along with Voroneţ, is probably the best preserved. The dominant colour of the frescoes is a reddish brown. The master painter responsible for Humor's frescoes, which were painted in 1535, is one Toma of Suceava.
The church has been inscribed by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage Sites, as one of the Painted churches of Moldavia.
The monastery was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph (Yoseb, Amba) Alaverdeli, who came from Antioch and settled in Alaverdi, then a small village and former pagan religious center dedicated to the Moon. At a height of over 55 meters, Alaverdi Cathedral is the second tallest religious building in Georgia, after Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, which was consecrated in 2004.
The monastery dates back to the 6th century, the present day cathedral was built in the 11th century by Kvirike III of Kakheti, replacing an older church of St. George.

Bachkovo Monastery
The “Assumption” monastery is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the western part of Rodope Mountain, 10 km away from Asenovgrad. It was founded by Grigoriy Bukuriani – Georgian military commander who was at the service of the Byzantine Emperor. After the Ottomans conquered Bulgaria at the end of 14 century, the heroic patriarch St. Evtimiy Tarnovski was sent into exile in the monastery where he stayed until the end of his life. At first the monastery survived ottoman attacks but later it was burned down and plundered. During the 15th century it was renovated. The main monastery church was built in 1604. The wall paintings in the refectory date back from 1643. There are stages of “the Doomsday”, figures of holy monks, stages from the Orthodox Church history, and many other mural paintings. The icon of Virgin Mary is said to be miraculous. 103 manuscripts and 252 old printed books were found in the monastery in the beginning of 20 century and were called “a real literature depository”.

Built in the third century BC The Monastery is believed to have been built as a Nabatean tomb for King Obadas. The structure now stands high above the World Heritage Listed ancient city of Petra in southern Jordan.
The monastery of Kernitsa, near the village of Nymphasia in the mountainous prefecture of Arcadia, Peloponnese, was built in 1105. In a cave inside the monastery the icon of Virgin Mary was found and it is considered miraculous. Besides the icon the monastery houses relics of Saints and Martyrs. Today it is an active convent which is open to visitors.

Tabo Monastery (Tabo Chos-Khor Monastery) is located in the Tabo village of Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh, northern India. A dry high altitude desert region, the monastery is found at 3,050m above sea level. It was founded in 996 CE in the Tibetan year of the Fire Ape. The interior consists of buddhist thankas, frescoes and statues and is one of the oldest continuously functioning buddhist monasteries within India and the Himalayas.

Kecharis Monastery (Կեչառիսի վանքային համալիր), is a medieval Armenian monastic complex dating back to the 11th to 13th centuries. It is located 60 km from Yerevan, in the ski resort town of Tsaghkadzor. The main temple of the complex is the church of Saint Grigor.
The Monastery of Batalha (Portuguese: Mosteiro da Batalha) is a Dominican convent in the municipality of Batalha, in the district of Leiria, in the Centro Region of Portugal. Originally, and officially, known as the Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory, it was erected in commemoration of the 1385 Battle of Aljubarrota and would serve as the burial church of the 15th-century Aviz dynasty of Portuguese royalty. It is one of the best and original examples of Late Flamboyant Gothic architecture in Portugal, intermingled with the Manueline style.

About: It's considered as one of the old gates in the Monastery for the monks cells in the past. Nowadays their numbers are increasing and there are some new cells are being constructed in some other zones in the monastery built by stones (Vernacular architecture).
