Monasteries and Barley
A staple of the Tibetan diet is yak butter tea. Tea from the south is transported to the Tibetan region where locally grown barley is added in making this rather substantial tea drink. Since Tibetan monks were the first to favor this drink, the Tea Horse Road courses from one monastery to the next on its way to Lhasa.
