Wild Great Grey Owl surveying the open landscape listening for voles beneath the snow covered ground.
This American Coot stayed by the shoreline in close distance as I was watching other birds in the marsh. I often overlook them (unless I can get a photo of their feet or their offspring), but decided this fella needed to be on my camera card. Photo taken in Alberta - Canada.
A borrowed line in a well known poem written in the 19th century. May we remember the service and sacrifice of those who served (and are serving) in wars, conflict, and peacekeeping missions. I will be thanking a special veteran tomorrow on Remembrance Day. Extended thank you to all those who have or are serving, their families, and communities that support them.
9/11 -We will never forget all sacrifices of first responders, families and loved ones of those who perished at the hands of savages and still bear the deeply rooted emotional & physical scars.
And as CENTCOM Commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie praised the Taliban for being "helpful, useful, businesslike and pragmatic" during the evacuation where 13 US military personnel died & hundreds were critically wounded on August 26th; let us remember it was Taliban who sheltered al Qaedas Osama bin Laden & his henchmen after the attack of 9/11 of course, till they slithered over to Pakistan to hide.

Where were you...
Lyrics by Alan Jackson
"Where were you when the world stopped turnin' that September day? Were you in the yard with your wife and children Or workin' on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky? Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor Or did you just sit down and cry?
Did you weep for the children, they lost their dear loved ones
Pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below? Did you burst out with pride for the red, white, and blue And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer and look at yourself and what really matters?
I'm just a singer of simple songs, I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the diff'rence in Iraq and Iran. But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young,
Faith, hope, and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turnin' that September day? Teachin' a class full of innocent children
Or drivin' down some cold interstate? Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor? In a crowded room did you feel alone? Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep? Did you notice the sunset for the first time in ages and speak to some stranger on the street? Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow, g o out and buy you a gun? Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin' And turn on I Love Lucy reruns?
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Stand in line to give your own blood? Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family & Thank God you had somebody to love"
I was slowing moving along with the crowds - and they were BIG crowds - inside the Vatican Museums. It was almost impossible to stop and admire closely at the many art pieces displayed along the way. All of a sudden I saw a glimpse of this special part of the Vatican Museums that was so serene and left almost completely empty, like a sanctuary, because public access was prohibited beyond a certain point. It was in stark contrast to the noises of the crowds that I was experiencing. I had no idea of what this mysterious hallway was called, but just couldn't resist sneaking out of the crowds and taking this photo, and very, very quickly too, before re-joining the crowds:-)
It was a very unique moment of peace in my mind.

Remembrance of Jewish children.
From 1932 the Jewish Orphanage was located here. In March '43, the orphanage was evacuated; the orphans and their caregivers are murdered in Sobibor.
No flash used, a handheld capture inside this historic Georgian monastery. Some wonderful voices of a female choir were heard while this impressive service was held.
Thank you all for your appreciation!
In all years I've been doing photography I have never had all these conditions at the same time, fresh snow, hoar frost, fog and the sun that peaked through this thick fog. Absolutely wonderful conditions this morning.
Have a moment of silence. Remember those who gave their lives for our conutry and don't forget war is cruelty to all mankind.

This image of Old Glory is a reflection from the waters of Victoria’s Inner Harbor.
Today I reflect, like I do each year, about the events seven years ago. While I am a Canadian, September 11, 2001 had a profound effect on me and forever changed the importance of the work I do.
We must never forget this tragedy, and today’s debate on political views and the turmoil since, whether personal or otherwise, should be set aside and a moment of silence provided by all for the loss endured by so many on this date in history.
We will never forget the tragedy of 9/11 ... Lets all take a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives, & to those who helped.. & Pray that someday their will be Peace all around the World..

Veterans Day History
The U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed an Armistice Day for 12th November, 1919. And The United States Congress conceded a parallel resolution after 7 years on 4th June, 1926, applying for a President issue another declaration to survey 11th November with proper ceremonies. An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) permitted 13th May , 1938, made 11th of November in every year an authorized holiday; "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'."
In the year of 1953, an Emporia, Kansas, shoe store holder named Al King had a plan to increase Armistice Day to commemorate all veterans, not presently those who provided in World War I. the king had been keenly occupied with an American War Dads throughout World War II. Then he started a crusade to turn the Armistice Day into "All" Veterans Day. And The Emporia Chamber of Commerce assumed the reason after resolving that 90% of the Emporia merchants with the Board of Education supported finishing their doors on 11th November, 1953, to tribute veterans. And with the help of then-U.S. Rep. Ed Rees, from Emporia, a bill for holiday was push through Congress. The President Dwight Eisenhower marked it into law on 26th May, 1954.
Congress modified this act on 8th November, 1954, replacing "Armistice" with Veterans. It has been recognized as Veterans Day since.
Even though originally planned for commemoration on 11th November of each year, opening in 1971 compliant with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, Veterans Day was shifted to fourth Monday of October. And In the year of 1978 it was retreated to its original commemoration on 11th November

Emma Gonzalez's speech included a moment of silence which ended after 6 minutes and 20 seconds - the amount of time in which one gunman killed 17 schoolchildren and teachers. Her emotional speech completelly gripped the estimated 0.8 million people at the March For Our Lives Rally in Washington, D.C., on March 24, 2018.
The center photo was taken by "Mobilus in Mobil", who licensed the photo so that it may be reposted with attribution. I appreciate that he has allowed me to use his image in this montage. The original photo can be seen here:

In this image, we see a woman poised in a moment of quiet reflection. Dressed in a chic black off-shoulder dress, she stands against a backdrop of vertical lines that add depth to the composition. The play of light and shadow accentuates her features, drawing attention to her thoughtful expression. Model : Fanny, Location:

To The Memory Of Those Who Died For King And Country In The Great War 1914 - 1919
”They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon
Within the Edmonton Cemetery is the Military Field of Honour, established in 1922. Marker stones are laid out with no distinctions between rank or file of the veterans. There are 80 Commonwealth war graves from the First World War and 51 from World War II.
Honour those who have served and continue to serve to defend peace.
