These scratched numbers inside the tubes are the highest I have found in the series of molds with numbers inside the tubes.
This mold seems to have been made using elements of a previous mold with numbers above and below the right tube. These bricks with the scratched numbers are common in Europe. I have not yet found any of the bricks from a previous mold version without the scratched mold numbers.
The scratched numbers suggests that the other (engraved) mold numbers are older.
The chronology of the mold versions and numbering systems suggests that the bricks with the numbers inside the tubes were made before the bricks with the numbers above and below the tube. The numbers inside the tubes continue the numbering sequence used in earlier molds with split tubes. These bricks suggests that the sequence might not be as simple as that, and the two numbering systems could have been used at the same time.
The bricks with numbers inside the tubes have a gap in the numbering between 217 and 318. These different numbered bricks could fit in there (221, 241, 251, 280, 301, 302, 303, 304).

Scratched numbers 382 to 390. Number 388 is missing, the only way I can explain that is if the moldmaker made a mistake.
The engraved numbers seem to be elements from older molds.

This is a vintage Mold-A-Rama from the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, WI. They haven’t had the machines in many years and this particular mold is an older one, representing Winkie, a beloved but dangerous elephant who spent her final years at an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee.
This was the wrong lightbox for the job so I didn’t even bother putting up a background. It’s tipped to make the lettering on the base easier to read when viewed large. On the reverse side it has the elephant’s name although the moldmaker got it wrong, using “Wilkie” instead of “Winkie”.
Today you can still find Mold-A-Rama machines at some zoos around the country including the Milwaukee County Zoo in Wisconsin and the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago and the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit.

While working away today machining some bronze and black nylon I thought some of the chips would look awesome in a pen casting. Nothing goes to waste even the chips are getting reused. I can't wait to demold these blanks and try them out especially the black nylon casting on the upper left.
Here is one of the finished products, an alumilite cast pen with bronze chips. I love the way this pen looks with the purple and silver swirls surrounding the golden bronze chips.
Here is on of the finished pens where I cast black nylon chips in alumilite. Very interesting effect and a great way to use up some chips from previous machining projects.
Pictured here are the two pens finished. The upper pen was made from black nylon chips which were then cast in alumilite with some white dye and sky blue glitter. The lower pen was made from some bronze chips cast in alumilite with some purple dye and silver pigment. These make excellent gifts for anyone in the trades.

In this experiment, students discover in which environmental conditions bread molds are grown. The experiment is a controlled experiment. When the effect of one variable on conduction is explored, the other variables are kept constant. In part one, molds are defined using animation. In part two, students are asked to observe the effect of temperature, moisture and light on growth of molds. The students put a slice of bread on mold maker and change the temperature of the environment. The students repeat observations with different temperatures and compare them with the control group. Then the students change the moisture and the light of the environment and make observations to see the effect of them. The data from the students’ actions and the conclusions drawn from this data are presented in the form of a report. After completion of the observations, the effects of environmental factors on molds are demonstrated through animation.

The process of sand-casting has changed little in the past century, except for the addition of labor-saving devices that speed up the process, as can be seen when this photo is compared to a moldmaker's work area circa 1840 (from the Hopewell Furnace set).
