Take some time off from the hustle and bustle of the city and visit Muela del Diablo, a distinct rock formation formed by an extinct volcano plug. Translated as the ‘Devil’s Molar’ in English, the formation was named due to its peculiar shape when viewed from certain vantage points. You can walk to the attraction in no more than half a day, regardless of your trekking experience. Enjoy the rewards of your efforts with awe-inspiring views of La Paz and the surrounding valleys. A visit to Muela del Diablo represents just the start of the adventure when you use our La Paz sightseeing website to plot your vacation.
I have no idea what the kind of mushroom is but .it looks like a spiked one to me with much bokeh dancing around it

The Devil's Tooth (Muella del Diablo) is in the middle. It is the last mountain.

Beethoven: "I want to keep my teeth and molars!"
I am so sorry dear Beethoven, but today all your teeth and molars will be removed because your entire dentition is infected. You are in a lot of pain and this is the only solution. You will be in a lot of pain after all also, but mommy is with you and will give you lots of hugs. Be strong my little guy, my Beety Boy.
I love you so much! ♥
My heart hurts!
Update May 14th: Some good news, his incisors stayed in and 2 canines. (There were already 2 canines that fell out due to the infection) So he still has some teeth left.
Yesterday he was quite lively, but he didn't want to eat his soft food. Unbelievable: he ate some hard kibbles. Actually he is only allowed soft food for 10 days, but okay.
He slept under my bed and after some food and his medicines, he is under my bed again; hiding. But for the moment he looks ok.
Update May 15th: Good news, my little friend is so much better. He eats in moderation, but this morning he would like to play. Yes! I am happy!
Thank you so much for your warm words!!
Water flowing over La Jolla's Pot Holes offer so many different compositions. Right tide, right swell and (no other photographers) can make for a really fun session. .
This is a panorama made up of five simple shots. Hugin with a Triplane projection (parameter=53) was used to build the panorama. Darktable was used for the edition. You can read additional technical information in my profile (about section).
I had a molar extracted and it caused me a fair amount of pain so I worked in the mornings and then spent the afternoons this week in bed. I've discovered that Pippi is as big a couch potato as I am. She LOVES TV. George thought she just liked bird videos created for cats so I showed her a couple of those. She loved them but I got bored so I switched tabs on my Chromebook and went back to watching TV shows. Turns out Pippi likes those too! She's never sat on either of our laps until I hauled out the Chromebook and suddenly she wants the best seat in the house - lying on me as I try to watch TV. She will truly sit still for 2 hours watching the screen on my Chromebook. I have no idea what she sees or what she's thinking but I love our new routine of chilling in the afternoons watching TV together.
Happy Caturday: Describe your cat in one word
(Sorry, "couch potato" is two words but it perfectly describes Pippi this past week.)
Keine Angst. Sie beißen nicht mehr.

My mother had given me this little box a long time ago. And when my daughter's first milk teeth started to shake, with great lamentation (no, actually she was very brave and wiggled her teeth for so long that it made it fall out very quickly ...), announcement of the tooth fairy (or was that only valid when separated from the pacifier?) and sometimes a little help with a thread that wrapped around the tooth to be sacrificed and was attached to a door handle and had finally left the place of origin (mouth) by slamming the door ... So, finally the tooth (and all the other buddies) found his resting in this ceramic box.

Sheepshead: Archosargus probatocephalus
Appearance:
Basic silvery color with 5 or 6 distinct vertical black bars on the sides; bars are not always the same on both sides
Prominent teeth, including incisors, molars and rounded grinders
No barbels on the lower jaw
Habitat:
Sheepshead are an inshore species and are commonly found around oyster bars, seawalls and in tidal creeks. They move nearshore during late winter and early spring for spawning.

A storm near Winslow, Arizona is getting painted by warm light from the ground below. The blocky lowering evokes a the profile of a wall cloud, however watching a time lapse of the storm suggests that it was a focused shelf cloud seen edgewise.

As you can from the picture, I finally went to the dentist. Only because I couldn’t handle the tooth pain any longer.
So it’s a few days later, he fixed a broken molar but I told my dentist I thought the pain was coming from the tooth in front. I seem to be correct in my diagnosis 😢.
I really, really, do not want to go back! To hate going there?
West Dean Gardens
The Gazebo at the western end of the 300' (c.100m) long Pergola in West Dean gardens has a floor made of knapped flints interspersed with horses' molars!
The pergola was designed in 1905 by Harold Peto and was extensively restored following the great storm of 1987.
The Coyote-Badger interaction depicted earlier in this series was amazing, but each animal was compelling by itself, too. Trotting toward me, Coyote opened her mouth wide; at first I thought she was yawning. But, no. She let out that famous, high pitched, yipping coyote howl.
I find the set of her jawline really interesting here. Not only does she have large, bone-crushing molars to match the piercing canines, but her jaws are wide-set, making her entire mouth seem enormous. That's a very different look from the rather streamlined, closed muzzle.
I am guessing that this is a female, btw. With their thick winter coats on, it's hard to tell unless you see them urinate. There's no good reason to always default to "he" when describing animals.
Last note: I've sprained my thumb and that has really slowed down my typing, so my comments are likely to be fewer and briefer over the next couple of days.

Angel Arch is tucked away in a remote part of Canyonlands. Even getting to the trailhead was fun as we passed through deep sand and streams of water. The hike out there took a little longer than we expected since the trail is difficult to follow. We bushwacked quite a bit through the thick vegetation along Salt Creek arriving just before dark. The first part of the evening there was no moon and we got some great Milky Way shots. But then the moon rose and illuminated the arch. The moonlight on the arch really intrigued me since it's a little different from most night shots. But I'll still post one of the Milky Way photos next month. The rock you see on the right side is aptly named The Molar.
Toothworts
Molars, purpled from chewing blood,
Mouth the air. Like a fractured jaw,
It atrophies in brown senescence,
Shrivelled in mortal sequence.
Then come canines, each slick blade
A channelled fang on forest floor.
Curtailed questions, curt statements:
Death in life, blanched and bland.
Notes: Toothworts, pictured here on the grounds of a Roman villa, parasitize the roots of trees, and contain no chlorophyll. The doctrine of signatures dictated that these corpse-like flowers were good for toothache, because they look so much like molars. As Grigson, The Englishman’s Flora points out, “the corolla rapidly dries and shrivels to a dark brown, so that on a spike at one time fresh flowers on top are succeeded by shrivelled flowers below, adding to the plant’s deathliness.” Moreover, the capsules “are ivory-white and shiny and channelled like small fangs.” Fortunately for the plants they parasitize, but not for enthusiasts, these botanical vampires are comparatively rare. See also Richard Mabey, Flora Britannica, p. 336.

Found this while on a walk through the bush looking for blackberries to make wine. If all the horsefly bites I got while I was out there are any indication it probably didn't take long for this dying deer to be picked clean. The rest of the carcass was nowhere to be found but I'm guessing it's a deer based on the size and the configuration of the molars with an absence of canines. It's definitely a large herbivore whatever it was.

From a stand off distance I took the photo from my vehicle window, I was surprised when the Owl flew straight towards my vehicle window and into the tree behind me.
