L'Abbazia di San Giovanni Evangelista è una abbazia benedettina che si trova a Parma. È un vasto complesso di edifici che comprende la chiesa dedicata a San Giovanni Evangelista, il monastero e l'Antica Spezieria.
Costruita nel X secolo da Sigefredo II su un precedente oratorio intitolato a San Colombano, l'abbazia viene affidata al primo abate Giovanni, canonico del duomo di Parma. Nel 1477 l'intero complesso venne ricostruito dopo un incendio.
La chiesa è a croce latina e ha tre navate. La facciata marmorea fu disegnata da Simone Moschino in stile barocco nel 1604. Il campanile, probabile opera di Giovanni Battista Magnani, presente sul lato destro, fu aggiunto nel 1613. La grande cupola fu dipinta dal Correggio nel 1520, anticipando quella del duomo che lo stesso Correggio eseguì dal 1526. La firma di Bernardo Falconi è apposta su uno degli otto Putti in bronzo che reggono la mensa dell'altare maggiore.
Il monastero ruota attorno a tre chiostri: il primo cortile presenta un colonnato in stile ionico, il secondo contiene decorazioni di Correggio e nel terzo, detto chiostro di San Benedetto, sono visibili affreschi di inizio Cinquecento. All'interno della Biblioteca Monumentale sono presenti codici che dimostrano l'attività amanuense del monastero. Questi codici provenivano dall'Abbazia di Santa Giustina di Padova senza presenza di decorazioni. Qui venivano ornate da Damiano da Moile, Francino da Moile e, a partire dal 1492, da Michele da Genova.
Le prime notizie che si hanno riguardo alla presenza di una spezieria interna al complesso religioso, risalgono al 1201.
L'impianto viene modificato nel 1766, quando Guillaume du Tillot ordinò la secolarizzazione di tutte le attività commerciali religiose, separando e rendendo autonomi gli interni del monastero da quelli della farmacia: viene lasciata solo una piccola finestra per il passaggio dei farmaci ai monaci.
La spezieria venne affidata agli speziali Luigi Gardoni (1836 - 1878), suo figlio Ferdinando, e a suo nipote Luigi, per poi cessare l'attività nel 1896 quando l'edificio venne acquistato dallo Stato.
Quattro sale compongono l'Antica Spezieria che sarà rappresentata in un dipinto ottocentesco dal pittore di Fontanelle di Roccabianca Luigi Marchesi: sala del fuoco (per la presenza del camino), quella dei mortai (con raffigurazioni dei medici dell'antichità ), quella delle Sirene (con le rappresentazioni dei medici parmensi) e poi viene il laboratorio, con un pozzo e l'ingresso a una cantina in cui si trovavano le spezie. In tutte queste stanze sono conservati antichi mortai, bilance, pesi e altri strumenti per la fabbricazione di farmaci.
There has been a castle in Kyleakin for many centuries. It was a home to the Mackinnon clan. The current structure was built in the 16th century, It remained unused for a long time, and had further destruction in 20th century storms.

Also known as Dun Sgathaich in gaelic, these are the fragmentary remains of a castle near Tarskavaig on the west coast of the Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye. It was a stronghold of the Clan Donald (Macdonald). As I recall, the arched bridge over the gulley was reckoned by archaeologists to be a relatively late addition to the castle and the "floor" of the bridge has collapsed so it's very difficult to get over to the castle. As with other ruined castles on Skye (e.g. Moil and Duntulm) which are not preserved, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lot more of this has collapsed since I took this pic in the early 90s.

Le port de Kyleakin, le village sur lequel on arrive sur l'île de Skye en venant de la Grande-Bretagne (Kyle of Lochalsh) via le pont de Skye. Avec les ruines du château Maol ou Moil, ou Moal, on Dun Akyn, ou Dunakin, ou Dun Haakon... bref quelques restes de murs auquels on attache pas mal d'histoires. On dit par exemple que le roi de Norvège Hakon IV l'ancien l'aurait fait construire avant sa défaite historique en 1263 (bataille de Largs), après laquelle il se retira dans les Orcades et ne réclama plus la suzeraineté norvégienne sur les Hébrides (merciki ? merciwiki !).

The fragmentary remains of this castle - also known as Castle Camus - are on the east coast of Sleat on the Isle of Skye between Isleornsay and Armadale.
Apparently archaeologists can tell us this is the new wing of the castle!
I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that a lot more of this has fallen down since I took this pic in the early 90s as with Moil and Duntulm castles, also on Skye.
