Picture House Ashford. Crazy road layout. Not sure where the pavement ends and the road begins. Extremely confusing.

Completed in January 1945 using Rubislaw (Aberdeen) granite. Architect Leo Durnin, with “Spirit of the Wind” figure designed by Thomas Huxley-Jones.

Im kirnitzschtal gibt es noch nahezu komplett historischen Verkehr. Bis auf geringfügig der Zeit angepasste Triebwagen des Typs Gotha hat sich nicht viel verändert. Die Landschaft lädt weiterhin zahlreiche Wanderer ins Tal, ebenfalls Fans der romantischen und reizenden Tramlinie. So auch einen Bekannten und mich am 09.02.2023. An lässig der nur noch wenigen Fahrten die Wagen 1 hat, bevor er Modernist wird, ist er aktuelle für die Fahrschule unterwegs.

'Frankfurt Kitchen' designed in 1927 by Austrian architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, in order to be efficient and hygienic. About 10,000 of these kitchens were installed in Frankfurt apartments.

 

V&A Storehouse, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney

Public toilet block on the beach at Klampenborg, a suburb north of Copenhagen. Designed as part of a wider development by Arne Jacobsen and completed in 1932.

La Pedrera – Casa Milà

Antoni Gaudí's modernist architecture on Passeig de Gràcia.

UNESCO listed this building as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The last civil work of the modernist architect Antoni Gaudí. The building was designed as a family residence.

Designed in a modernist style by architect Graham Dawbarn and opened in 1960. The BBC moved their operations out of building in 2013 and following renovations, it reopened in 2017 as a mixed use development which includes office space, residential apartments, leisure services as well as rertaining three TV production studios.

A quaint, though very modern and somewhat vandalised, beach hut on Royal Parade.

Hipstamatic Interlude

The employee at the hardware store shot me a side glance when she found me reaching into a trash can with my iPhone to capture this shot. For a few strange moments I might as well have been at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City or any modernist gallery but I was in the paint department of Goody's Hardware in East Haven, Connecticut. That's right, the entire black plastic trash can was empty but lined with splattered paint in mostly red, yellow, ochre and white. It was a remarkable find ala Jackson Pollock, a fine example of accidental modernist art. Voila!

 

This is a view looking straight down into the trash can. The photo I uploaded yesterday shows one interior side of the same trash can.

The building will be kept in a basic state of preservation until the marketing has been completed, i.e. permanent tenants have been found and further financing for a monument-compliant expansion has been secured.
