Serco-Northlink operated ferry (owned by Macbraynes/Scottish government) arriving through Hoy Sound, passing Hoy High Lighthouse on the island of Graemsay filmed from the point of Ness Stromness as she enters Stromness harbour.
At 3.16 the Hamnavoe sounds the letter N -. on her horn as she enters Stromness, this is an old tradition which goes back to the North of Scotland Orkney & Shetland, Steam Navigation Company who were the first to to sound the N -. on their ships horn as they approached harbour and with Northlink being the modern day operator of the route, they decided to restart the old tradition.

This is a seventh series of buildings (some as photographed), glass panels, abstract shapes formed from buildings. Most are in London, although they could be any city. I have not named any building, nor have attempted to find Architects or Designers. I have just altered things to my own taste, nothing is sacrosanct, nothing lasts for ever, new ideas quickly become old as will these images be the moment I post them. Please enjoy.
The title here is a direct reference to Charlie Chaplin's masterpiece movie Modern Times (1936). When you look at this short clip of the hero being swallowed by the machine, you'll see why.

IED, improvised explosive device , are modern soldiers worst nightmare.
By the end of 2007 they have been responsible for at least 64% of Coalition deaths in Iraq.
Here is a picture of us special forces targeted by an ied during a night mission in the afghan's desert (yeah it's not in the snow). I keep exploring in the live explosions area, made with bengal fire. You stick several together, and you should get a big blow.
A big thanks to Tiny Tactical and their amazing gear to make this one possible. www.tinytactical.com
Be sure I will do some more modern military pictures !
181 Fremont Street (completed in 2018) reflected onto Millennium Tower (completed in 2009), in downtown San Francisco. And the building barely seen on the left is Salesforce Tower (completed 2018).
Once you make it through the large ring of construction around it, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is quite peaceful and impressive.
Thanks for your visit. Prints and licenses are available at my website www.hpd-fotografy.com. A large portion of my work has been selected by Getty Images and is also available there.
( Welcome ..... nice to have you here. )
Walter Schrempf's blueprint of the building was the winner of an architecture competition in the year 1963. Then, he invited Otto Herbert Hajek to reshape his draft artificially to overcome the comtemporary paradigmatic sobriety of the 1960's. The realisation of the building started in 1966, after Hajek had presented his version to the commission of the university.
The result of the architect’s and sculptor’s collaboration is a functional modern architecture, which opens up to the technical age and uses new materials, and is also a space sculpture at the same time. Naked concrete contrasts with a vivid coloration through yellow, red and blue surfaces. Geometric elements, which are arranged like a box, determine the spatial effect. The interior is divided by plastic concrete elements in various large levels and units.
The building has been built as a "Student House" in which all services for the students are included: dining hall, administration for the students services like financial support, recreational facility, theatre hall, café, event room. All these functions are still existing today.
The building is a historical monument.

Chose to treat this photo a bit differently, focusing on the contrast brought by the evening sun. This house looks to be made from old barnwood with wagon wheels and windmills in the yard but very modern looking window and the large HDTV antenna on the roof. Old car and newer car. Taken in Eastern Wisconsin.

Modern Sydney’s skyscrapers over looking the 1970’s ‘Town Hall House’. It was probably very stylish back in 1977 when it opened, but 40 years on, it’s looking quite dated.

The Museum of Liverpool in Liverpool, England, is the newest addition to the National Museums Liverpool group having opened in 2011 replacing the former Museum of Liverpool Life.
National Museums Liverpool intention is for the new venue to tell the story of Liverpool and its people, and reflect the city’s global significance.
The museum is housed in a new purpose-built building on the Mann Island site at the Pier Head.
I love minimalist and graphic images if I can find them.
This modern building lent itself perfectly.
The second image is the top front of the museum, across the Liverbirds.
The liver bird is a mythical creature which is the symbol of the English city of Liverpool.
It is normally represented as a cormorant, and appears as such on the city's arms, in which it bears a branch of laver seaweed in its beak as a further pun on the name "Liverpool".
The two most famous stand atop the clock towers of the Royal Liver Building at Liverpool's Pier Head, overlooking the Mersey.
Their names are Bertie and Bella.
Hope you like.
Have a lovely day and thank you, as always, M, (*_*)

Last time, I just spent 2 days in London, time was in a hurry, but I loved the short visit inside the city.
