The Trackside Motel is conveniently located in between the mini-mart and Union Pacific main line. For the motel guests' sake, let's hope that the trains don't blow for the crossing.

The town of Cass, West Virginia, as featured on Harry Clark's Indian Creek Valley HO scale railroad. Harry made several trips to Cass and measured many of the original structures such as company houses, Presbyterian church, and Masonic Lodge highlighted in this picture.

Many of these structures are still intact today and are part of the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, where visitors can ride behind century old Shay locomotives and stay is nicely refurbished company houses.

Harry Clark's Indian Creek Valley railroad will be on display in the Connellsville Canteen and is expected to be open to the public sometime in spring 2013.

After moving into our new home I began benchwork construction for my new HO layout. The benchwork is standard box grid construction using 1x4 lumber with two sheets of extruded foam for a sub roadbed. The trackplan is a point to point beginning in a small yard with engine terminal, passing through Bay City, crossing the Saginaw River, and ending at a Consumers Power facility. The river section will feature a lake boat and have a lift out bridge that will allow a continious running loop.

The layout's backdrop (above) is aluminum coil flashing (a commercial building material) glued to a hardboard back and painted sky blue.

"Leek Junction" or "Scones Please" is a beautifull piece of work made by Robert Jan de Vries as a member of Team Mitropa (a dutch modelrailway association) and Beneluxspoor. Leek Junction, 00 scale, is a fictional scene in the UK. A depot with shunting activities. A yard, a line to/from a coal mine and a diesel station are the facilities which are used in the secene. This modula is a good example of the rising level which the average 'home' modelrailroaders show these days. Through websites and forums they learn to improve techniques and skills in how to build as realistic as possible. I am a member of www.beneluxspoor.net myself as well, it is the biggest dutch modelrailway forum.

This is the Saroulmapoul modula "Bouilliere" made by Roderik Vanderkelen (Be). For all you who are not accustomed with the 'Saroulmapoul'-modules, I'll give a little explaination. The 'Saroulmapoul' are a group of Belgian and French modelrailroaders who have devised a standard to link their modules. It based on the FDEM-standard. The gauge is HOm (HO-metric) and the rolling stock is mostly Belgian Vicinal material. What the individual builder does between his 2 'sides' is only limited by his own imagination. Roderik has chosen to build a smaller version of the old NMVB Vicinal-station of Bouillon. Since he has changed the original track plan and some of the buildings, he also altered the name to Bouillière.

The Tuscarora Valley Railroad was a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge short-line railroad that operated in central Pennsylvania from 1891 to 1934. Here it is seen in HO Scale at a model railroad show in LaGrange.

This is an HO Scale model of N&W's J #611 from Broadway Limited Imports a few years ago. I picked it up for a song from a local hobby store that was closing down. I did a bit of light weathering to make it look like it might have looked near the end of it's career-say 1957 or early '58.

On March 6, 2020 my friend Chuck and I were able to take a tour of Kalmbach Publishing. This is on one of their layouts and is either a church or a one-room schoolhouse.

I almost fell over when I saw this...the Rochelle Railroad Park on the cover of the November issue of Model Railroader magazine!

Model railroader Daryl Kruse built an N scale version of the Rochelle Railroad Park on his "Rochelle Subdivision" model train layout.

He even has a blog for his layout that's really interesting: www.stpaulrochelle.org/blog

And a website too: home.comcast.net/~dpkruse/

Go out and get your copy of MR today, where ever fine railroad magazines are sold.

My train running by MOBASE Chemical on Jim McCroskie's HO Scale 1968 CB&Q Layout, based on the Kansas City-Omaha line via St. Joseph, MO. Mac is a retired CB&Q/BN Special Agent (originally a clerk). This layout was featured in April 2006 Railroad Model Craftsman. I ran this job as the 71 Local from KC-St. Joe on the way north, but ran an extra freight from St. Joe to KC on the way back south, with a UP leader. Fitting that I had UP 749 on the point, and CB&Q 225 trailing.

This is one of Harry Clark's models of the distinctive B&O railroad station in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. It was made completely by hand from measurements, drawings, and photographs prepared by Harry. The original station was torn down in 1980.

This weekend I attended the Midwest Narrow Gauge show in Canfield, Ohio. The Great Lakes HOn30 crew had their incredible modules inspired by the 2-foot gauge railroads of Maine on display. The modeling talent on display was among the best I have seen. These gentlemen are true craftsmen.

A Pennsylvania RR passenger train is seen at the LaGrange Model Railroad Show. The cars painted in Frisco and Missouri Pacific colors indicate that this might be the Penn-Texas, a New York City-St. Louis train that forwarded cars westward on those railroads.
