In 2019 we spent a weekend at the Carrizo Plain in central California to witness the superbloom. We also planned several photo shoots with model Chantal. Here she is walking across the white playa of the Soda Lake.

On our recent trip to Iceland we decided to travel at night and sleep in the daytime for two reasons: Almost no tourists, and better light for photography. We arrived after midnight sunset at Skógafoss, a very big waterfall. The model, my son's girlfriend, was standing on a small rock. She is illuminated with an LED flood light. It was cold and wet - she took off a thick white jacked for a few shots. My son helped towel her off after the shots. My legs and tripod were standing in ice cold water. No pain no gain.

It never really gets dark in summer, but that night it was unusually dark due to thick cloud cover. With that, the exposure time was longer than anticipated, which resulted in a streamy waterfall and a dress fluttering in the wind.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance.

We spent 3 days and nights at a rocket camp in the middle of the Nevada desert. We prepared also for this photoshoot. Back home at a thrift store I bought an old arm chair. We took it along into the desert, among a suitcase, suite, dress and lining. We drove a bit away from the rocket camp to be in the middle of nowhere for the photoshoot.

My son and his girlfriend were the models. A friend threw the red lining up into the air and stepped back. It all worked out perfectly, as planned.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from an overexposed RAW image, selectively adjusted the curves to get a bright background and normal exposed subjects, and carefully tweaked color balance to pop the scene.

Last spring we spent a weekend at the Carrizo Plain in central California to witness the superbloom. We also planned several photo shoots with model Chantal. Here she is posing in a field with yellow flowers. Shooting into the sun is usually a no-no, but you get interesting results if done carefully.

Today we went to the Big Basin Redwoods State Park located near us between the Silicon Valley and the coast of California. We found a beautiful spot for a photoshoot, nobody else was around. It was relatively dark in daytime, the redwoods are quite dense - not much light reaches the ground. The model Chantal did a great job posing on the tree trunk, my son threw the red lining up into the air and stepped back. It all worked out perfectly as planned, except for me the photographer - focus was off! To be repeated on a warmer day...

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Like so many, we experience cabin fever after spending a month at home in isolation. Today we escaped to nature for a photoshoot at a nearby trail in Cupertino, California. We had fun experimenting with different poses. The sun came out just in time to add interesting patterns of lights and shadows on this wooden footbridge.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and added a Silver Efex Pro 2 filter to promote the lights and shadows. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Like so many, we experience cabin fever after spending a month at home in isolation. On Sunday we escaped to nature for a photoshoot at a nearby trail in Cupertino, California. We had fun experimenting with different poses. I love this gnarly oak tree and the footbridge, perfect for a photoshoot. To take this shot I had to step back into a field of poison oak - I carefully trampled some plants to avoid the urushiol oils.

I processed a photographic, a paintery, and a smooth HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and added a Silver Efex Pro 2 filter to get this old postcard look. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

This image is dedicated to all people who lost their home in the recent CZU Lightning Complex in the San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties in California. There is a sad story behind each of the 1500 structures that were destroyed. Personally I can’t imagine how it feels like to loose one's home. Especially in this difficult time it is important to find support with loved ones and friends. We wish all of you strength and resilience to rebuild, and overcome the hardship. May phoenix rise from the ashes.

The Think Tank from the first Ghost in the Shell animated movie is one of my all time favourite mechs. With the new movie on the brink I felt it's a good time to show the model some love again.

So I made a new refined and tweaked version in order to eliminate all custom items for reasons of re-buildabilty. Also I made use of some newly released parts which give it a nice polish.

Building instructions and a parts list have been created for anyone interested.

This was some wall art in a framed box, looked very intricate and beautifully engineered as are the full size Porsche Engines.

I did clone out most of the rain spots on the glass front but left a few less distracting ones to remind of the three downpours of rain that day !

The other night we walked the streets of Causeway Bay in Hong Kong and saw this creative scene. The woman stood still for a long time. I set up my camera from far away and took many shots with a tele zoom lens. I positioned the camera so that the red traffic light is behind her head - which produces this red halo. Low ISO and aperture 8 resulted in a dynamic scene were she is totally still and sharp, contrasting with moving objects around her.

I processed this single shot into smooth HDR to enhance the micro-contrast.

This piece is dedicated in loving memory to my little cousin Brian Dodge and life long friend Tim Lianos. Both passed long before their time and within a month of one another. My cousin Brian loved lego and had more than anyone I’ve ever known. He gave it all to me about ten years ago and is and forever will be a part of everything I build. My friend Tim was a master mechanic, loved cars and would have fun pointing out the parts on my cars. I would always say to him “that’s why I did it like that” when in reality I was getting a lesson on what I was trying to emulate. I started this project the day after he died, still mourning the loss of my cousin. Gone but NEVER forgotten, may their memory live on in this piece as it helped me through the madness of loss and is in every way a reflection of just that.

On a brighter note: This piece also pays homage to Manuel Nascimento’s Rat Rod. His fully functional RC version still blows my mind. A perfect balance between form and function. It will always be a true work of art to me.

My vision for this car is that of a very modern and highly polished looking vehicle thus making it a Hot Rod and not a Rat Rod. It features fully functional steering to the wheel (not HOD) and realistic rotors and calipers that are double sided, functional (as far as wheel spin) and even have Lego brake pads. The calipers themselves where something I had built years ago and have been trying to develop in a practical application ever since. Thank you for taking the time to read this as it means a lot to me. I hope you enjoy!

- Finally finished this visual after a year of holding it off 😅 One of the very first shots I took off on my EOS R. Recently watched endgame so that was the inspiration for making the photo!
