closeup of 4-5 days' wind movement, from Helsinki

via sensors and Processing, into form

Wind movement measurement data (wind direction, velocity and temperature) was used to generate a 3d form, which was then cut out of wood.

( Digital wind meets wood :)

The wind line's direction is the compass direction of the wind, the wind's velocity is translated into the sculptural/formal wind line's direction. And, the wind's temperature is translated into the wind's height. The plateau represents 0°c. When the wind line is above, the temperature is somewhere above zero degrees, when the wind is cold, it digs into the wood surface.

The project is made possible via (Processing and) a kind cooperation between the Media Lab and School of Design/Paja (special thanks Hannu, the machine master!) Of the Helsinki Aalto University/Art & Design campus.

The data very generously comes from the Finnish Meteorological Institute's Testbed Helsinki Project.

First 24 hours with Gorgeous - our Tesla Model 3 - delivered yesterday.

As a test I tried to place it in reverse in the garage and the clever dickens said "No way - you are connected to the power"

Just run to a fashion show with my X-M1, this is my first time to shoot this kind of event, so basically this is like trial and error. Good thing my zoom lens is with me.

The new model railway layout At Poppleton Community Railway Nursery

The Poppleton Community Railway Nursery opened in March 2009 on the historic site of the former British Railways nursery. Initially used to provide fresh vegetables for Station Hotels and canteens along the route of the London and North Eastern Railway, and more recently responsible for brightening stations with floral displays, the nursery is now leased from Network Rail and provides a place where community groups and individuals can be encouraged to learn and share horticultural knowledge.

Run entirely by volunteers, the nursery continues to supply railway stations, including Poppleton, with plants for platform containers and borders. Small teams of workers, including a group from the NHS, grow a large variety of plants for regular sales throughout the year and also continue to restore the site’s buildings, greenhouses and narrow gauge railway to their former glory after several years of neglect.
