youtube.com/FashionTV - Jean-Paul Gaultier's edgy collection at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 went between a theme that reflected black swan and white swan, but also looked back at Gaultier's extravagant career --everything from the controversial looks to the cone bras. Gaultier also seems to be trying to make a statement that deviates from the norm and usually he succeeds without losing awareness of the technical elements of his craft. Everything about the models looked swan-inspired--down to the feathers in their hair.

youtube.com/FashionTV - Perhaps you could call Giambattista Valli's collection at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall 2011 a retro line, but that wouldn't be the right world for it. It was too posh for that. Still, the designer paid tribute to looks of past couture and he tried to make them old Hollywood glam, while also making them fun and playful. Lots of floral applique and embroidery, feathers, and cream fabrics, seemingly inspired by Audrey Hepburn or some other cute 50s sweetheart. He often bordered the line between casual and couture, using easy fabrics like white poplin for a shirtdress but formal fabrics lame tweed for a skirt. Later, there were ostrich feathers but they were coupled with coral and crystal and later with lace and a dresscoat that was both serious but also bold and colorful with a lemony skirt. There were the flowy fabrics, but also the stiff and structured ones.

youtube.com/FashionTV Alexis Mabille is always one to watch at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall 2011 because he brings something utterly French (and utterly fabulous) to his couture catwalk every season. His couture is always elaborate, always luxurious and always high quality. This collection was based on La Fontaine's animal fables, and he took note, decorating his models in furs, feathers, sheen, and crepe. He depicted animals in different fabrics and designs--a grasshopper in satin and lame (with wings), an ant in black crepe with slits, a wolf with black velvet and Swarovski crystal, a swan with a frothy white organza top and yellow tights, a Frog in a green ball gown and a hore with silk fringe on a bustier. Some pieces were simple but effective, others were overly dramatic. While everyone got the point, it was hard to know what was what, when he trying too hard and when he got it just right. FashionTV liked the collection, but judge for yourself.

youtube.com/FashionTV Alexandre Valuthier knows how to put the word "hot" into haute couture and he did so with his sensual red collection at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011. The collection was inspired by smeared red lipstick and the girls were dripping in couture sexuality---red furs, red volume, and red architectural structure were the name of the game as well as red slits and red fringe of course!
Model: Aymeline Valade
youtube.com/FashionTV - FashionTV is backstage at Maxime Simoens where the girls are relaxing before the show. The hair nets they wear on their head are not so glambut they're reasoning is effective--the girls are wearing slicked back 'dos during the actual show. The models make it work! Vasilisa Pavlova takes us behind the scenes, "What I love about the collection," she tells FTV, "is that he can collect different fabrics and make it work." Fabrics include silk, cotton, and hard cotton. Vasili gives us the scoop on the haute couture models, "It's harder to get a casting for haute couture than it is for ready-to-wear because they need special girls for that...For ready to wear there are different varieties of looks." Maud Welzen, wearing gorgeous silver eyeshadow, also gives FashionTV a sneak peek backstage.

youtube.com/FashionTV Quentin Veron's Paris Couture Fashion Week show for Fall/Winter 2011/2012 is a massive mixture of fur, leather, and tulle. Models wear fur embellishments around their shoulders, between their legs, as sleeves, and on their bust. Leather is also used as bustiers and sometimes as the bottom half. Tulle is mixed in as gothic veils surrounding the model's face or held as capelets on the arms or the shoulders. These girls look like fashion warriors, and we still wonder whether Quentin Veron used this idea as the theme of his collection.

youtube.com/FashionTV - The elegant Georges Hobeika show at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall 2011 had many key looks that were more than red carpet worthy. A pink strapless strapless dress with details at the bust, that flowed in a longer pleated hem, lace short sleeves, pleated bustiers, and gowns with textured tops were just some of the extravagant looks that seem perfect for a future wedding or a gala event. Bodices mushroomed and billowed and colors for the collection were mainly romantic pink, light purple, and ethereal white.

youtube.com/FashionTV PARIS - There's a reason why stars like Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Beyonce love fashion designer Georges Chakra--check out the beauty of his Fall 2011 Paris Couture Fashion Week show! Big red-carpet worthy gowns wowed on the runway, as always, this time in bright colors like fuchsia, orange, and red. The stand-outs in this show included the architectural hemlines and the stripes of color in the embellished shoulders. Chakra sure loves his sculpted pieces, his cut-outs, his feathers, his sequins and his trains. Models wore their hair in high buns with a purple floral accent that wowed the crowd.

youtube.com/FashionTV Elie Saab proves once again he is one to watch at Paris Couture Fashion Week Fall 2011, where big name models like Karlie Kloss, Hailey Clausen, and Ruby Aldridge model his pale blue, pink violet and white flowing looks with long flowing hems and embroidered bodice. Later, darker toned mauve beaded looks filled the stage. There was a group of dark blue designs, but the icing on the cake was that ethereal wedding gown with the giant ball gown and the long train modeled by Toni Garrn at the end of the presentation. While crystal and beads were the de rigeur, we're pretty sure we're going to be seeing those long flowing gowns at one of the big awards shows this year.
