The Northern Mockingbird is the official State Bird of Florida.
I could think of more colorful entries for Florida's State Bird, but....
It is also the State Bird of Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. It was formerly the State Bird of South Carolina (now the Carolina Wren).
The bird in the picture appears to have only one leg, but one leg is seemingly tucked in, a position many birds use when resting.
Florida's State Bird is the Northern Mockingbird, They are fairly widespread in Florida, which is one good reason to make them the State Bird : ) Though not brightly-colored, they are prolific singers. True to their name, mockingbirds mimic other birds songs, often repeating a sequence of notes several times.
This mockingbird was hanging out in the Beauty Bush today. It should have a full belly!
Like the Gray Catbird, mockingbirds are able to differentiate Brown-headed Cowbirds eggs from their own.
The Northern Mockingbird was named the official state bird of Tennessee in 1933.

When I saw it, I said to myself, NO way, I'd catch it, I grabbed my camera anyway. Captured on my deck, it stayed for more than 2 minutes, my lucky day......
Yes, my deck needs a paint job, which was made by my late husband 45 years ago, very sturdy, but, every 2 or 3 years, needs a paint job, which cost $800-1,000. I guess I probably won't spend this money again till I'm ready to move. :-)))
Mockingbirds do nothing but sing and best known for the habit of mimicking the songs of other birds.
Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.

Although not completely better—-and I am not sure if they ever will be—-my shoulders are getting better, so yesterday I ventured out with my 500mm to take some bird photographs. First time in months. My left shoulder is paying for it a little today, though. The skies weren’t necessarily conducive for photography, but I was able to get a few shots in (I saw more than I photographed), so I’ll post some same species sporadically. It was good to get out and spend some quiet time on the river bank and in the woods.

This common bird in the south posed on top of an old gnarly cactus with the clear blue sky showing through the trees in the background. I like the pose on one leg.
My temperature is still at 100, but my gut doesn't hurt as badly. I think I am on the mend. Now, my left sciatic nerve has flared up. Always something wrong. But since my gut seems to be mending and my temperature is going down some, I should be back in full swing in a couple of days, both in "real life" as well as here on Flickr.

The northern mockingbird is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America. This bird is mainly a permanent resident, but northern birds may move south during harsh weather.
