Last week, everywhere I looked, the Mocking Birds were stuffing themselves with caterpillars. Every photo I took of one of the birds has a caterpillar too.
But this one caught my eye because it had managed to catch three at once. It worked and worked stacking them to pick them all up. Here you see that it was successful.
In the middle of the week, the garden treated the ground so no more caterpillars.

From left: Molly Matott '15, NBC3 Weekend Morning meteorologist; Eric Hamilton '17; Aidan Ludington '17; and Kelly Sullivan '93, founder of CSTI Core Skills. All were among the participants in a mock interview event Dec. 1, 2016.
Further down the field from the tunnel air shaft, was this tower like structure, and a square roofless building with a tree in it (just in on the right). I have no idea what this is, it has mock windows and no way in, and is too thin to be a tower, so it could be some sort of chimney or vent too!
Ice crystals in the air can result a phenomenon known as "sundogs" - small rainbow like halos either side of the sun. Sundogs are also known as "mock suns". For more information go to www.atoptics.co.uk/

Mock Tudor Magic, by Brian Walbey
This is a male Mocker Swallowtail (Papilio dardanus) from Africa. The name comes from the fact that the females look like toxic butterflies in the genus Amauris, related to Monarchs. The males only need to live long enough to mate, so they are relatively expendable and are not protected by their coloration. The caterpillars feed on citrus trees. For a photo of the female, see here: www.flickr.com/photos/ncmls/4932493866/http://www.flickr....

Listen to the Mocking Bird
by Alice Hawthorne (1855)
(Most of us are familiar with this tune as
being the theme of "The Three Stooges.")
I’m dreaming now of Hally, sweet Hally, sweet Hally;
I’m dreaming now of Hally,
For the thought of her is one that never dies:
She’s sleeping in the valley, the valley, the valley;
She’s sleeping in the valley,
And the mocking bird singing where she lies.
Chorus:
Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,
The mocking bird still singing o'er her grave;
Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,
Still singing where the weeping willows wave.
Additional Verses:
Ah! well I yet remember, remember, remember,
Ah! well I yet remember,
When we gather’d in the cotton side by side;
’Twas in the mild September, September, September,
’Twas in the mild September,
And the mocking bird was singing far and wide.
When the charms of spring awaken, awaken, awaken:
When the charms of spring awaken,
And the mocking bird is singing on the bough.
I feel like one forsaken, forsaken, forsaken.
I feel like one so forsaken,
Since my Hally is no longer with me now.
Chorus:
