Mobile Strategist on the run

For the past five years, Christopher has been living inside the giant pinball machine also known as Tokyo, working with companies across the globe on mobile strategy.

He grew up in Germany’s Rhineland, where he happily spent the first three decades of his life — at least when he wasn’t away hiking in the Himalayas or driving a beat-up VW through remote parts of Brazil. He has been working at the intersection of Internet, Telecoms, Media and Advertising for more than a decade since graduating with a degree in Psychology from University of Cologne somewhere in the dark past. His assignments prior to coming to Asia include Vodafone D2 Germany, BenQ Mobile and Deutsche Telekom.

He is a regular speaker at top-tier conferences and mobile industry events worldwide, and has authored a string of publications on the Japanese mobile industry.

As a combined result of both personal passion and professional necessity, he has visited 34 countries and used more dodgy airlines than he cares to remember. He speaks four languages more or less fluently, is a distinguished practitioner of the culinary arts, and holds an unofficial black belt in taming Chihuahuas.

Christopher is currently in the process of relocating to Europe, spending 3 months traveling through Japan, India and Nepal as part of a brief hiatus, while most of his belongings make their journey across the Seven Seas on a boat that will hopefully not be held up off the Horn of Africa.

Marc Mielau was born in 1970. Since 2008 he has been the Head of Digital Media, International Brand Communication BMW AG, Munich and Lecturer for Designmanagement Muthesius Kunsthochschule, Kiel. From 2005 to 2008 he was the Innovation Manager, Marketing Innovations BMW AG, Munich and from 2002 to 2005 he was the Brand Manager, Corporate and Brand Identity BMW AG, Munich.

His education includes: Studies of Industrial Design, Hochschule der Künste, Berlin (1991), Studies at École des Beaux Arts Toulouse, France, Scholarship of Office Franco-Allemand (1995), and Diploma thesis “Ways of intelligent habitation,” Hochschule der Künste Berlin in cooperation with Bauhaus Universität Weimar. He speaks German, English, and French and he is interested in Technology, Entertainment, and Design. His associations include, the Club of Pioneers, IMD Alumni Network, and TED Attendee.
