Macro Monday 25/5/09: Memories
This was shot using a macro lens so it should qualify. Anyway, casette tapes remind us of a life without CDs or digital music and memories can be stored on tapes. I'm gonna upload something better soon so watch this space!

I redrew a bunch of old Cassette covers for fun but people told me I should do prints - if you like these and want one on your wall head over to tinyurl.com/musicassettes and you can order prints, posters, mugs and tote bags.
Pattern is Mixtape Quilts II from Elizabeth Hartman (Oh Fransson!). Version made is a Baby Quilt (36" x 46") from Party Mix. Blocks are 4" each.
Fabrics used are selected prints (7) from Joel Dewberry Modern Meadow and Kona Solids (Aqua, Navy Blue, Stone, Avocado, and White). Backing and Binding will be Michael Miller Ta Dot in Sea.
pulled a second edition of this. the first one was the first poster i ever printed and it didn't come out that great. i always wanted to go back and do it again, so i did this weekend.
edition of 80, 14.5x25, 2 colors.

I love this quilt! The pattern can be found at Oh Fransson! I love her patterns, they are so well done and easy to follow. She also gives lots of variations in size and design. This one came out to be a perfect lap size (great for naps on the sofa!) but I think next I will make a smaller baby quilt as a gift. I didn't have enough of the Lush prints to use them exclusively, but I like how they look mixed in with bits of Uptown and a sweet Japanese newsprint fabric. I also finally used some yellow pez that I've been saving for the longest time. It feels great to use fabric from my stash.

I finally finished the last of my quilt tops! This quilt top has been waiting since February and now it's done!
I wanted to use my summer vacation to clear up the huge pile of quilt tops that I had finished and now that I'm returning to work tomorrow I can happily say that I managed to do just that.
A nova mixtape da Action faz uma longa viagem para África. É isso aí! O Rui vive dizendo que um dia estaríamos falando de house ganês ou coisa que o valha, dessa vez chegamos bem perto. Sempre tivemos um carinho especial pela música africana, ainda mais pelo Jazz, que tem uma pegada bem diferente do que as pessoas estão acostumadas.
Começando com Femi Kuti,-filho mais velho do lendário Fela Kuti- a track tem um pé e meio no Afrobeat mas conserva um clima jazzy. Temos também a presença do camaronês Manu Dibango, autor da famosa Soul Makossa e diversos representantes da África do Sul: Da saudosa Mama Afrika Miriam Makeba, que faz uma homenagem ao Brasil com Xica da Silva, aos não tão famosos por aqui Hugh Masekela e Letta Mbulu. Ambos são estouradíssimos no continente africano e Masekela chegou até a gravar pela Motown e participar do Woodstock Black!
A seleção também conta com os pioneiros Salah Ragab, egípcio, o senegalês Mor Thiam, também conhecido por ser pai do rapper Akon e o maior representante do Jazz africano em todos os tempos: Mulatu Astatke. O cara faz um som único, extremamente soturno e aqui nos presenteia com a lindíssima Tezetaye antchi lidj. Ainda temos o etíope Mahmoud Ahmed com uma bela mistura de jazz com cantos tradcionas e para terminar com chave de ouro, uma homenagem a outro etíope, Tilahun Gessesse, recentemente falecido e um dos baluartes do jazz de seu país juntamente com Astatke.
