Artist Aurelio Martinez, leading voice of the Garifuna Community, was Honduras' first Senator of African descent. Aurelio was selected by the Rolex Mentor Protege Initiative as a protege of Youssou N'Dour. He served as co-host of this MusicWorks NYC Studio Reception.

  

The Garifuna community in the U.S dates back to the 1800's and number an estimated 40,000 strong in New York alone.
