"Choice is an illusion created between those with power and those without" - quote from The Matrix

....and such the true words at times when there is so much misinformation about Covid-19.

Looking back down the valley at the path I should have stuck too instead of going this way. It was dangerous and I was scared actually. Ill know better next time!!! Misinformation on a website! I got talking to a few other climbers who got in trouble in the same spot so its not just me.. Luckily Ive a little bit of experience but its easy get caught and nobody is really completely safe. These mountains can be treacherous.

Mind you, lifes paths often lead you off the beaten track sometimes or in my case most times!!

Hope you like the pic.

This is a wall of rocks approximately 35 meters (114.83 ft) high and 65º incline, considered an easy level climb, but it can be considered a grade 1 climb. However, this does not mean that it is easy for all.

We must climb through cracks in the rock wall, finding places to rest our feet and hands. On the way up it is usually easier because we can see all the support points. Going down, however, is more complicated as you can't see very well where to put your feet.

It is at this time that many people are “frozen” in stone without knowing what to do. Many start screaming and end up creating an atmosphere of panic that spreads to everyone around them. At that moment, one person's fear was amplified for others who are not 100% prepared or safe to go down the Holm Oak Tree / Carrasqueira. As you can imagine, the risk of an accident also increases.

One of the main reasons for accidents in Carrasqueira is misinformation. Many hikers think they are experienced and take the risk of climbing this stretch without a more experienced companion who knows the trail and has the necessary safety equipment to prevent a possible accident.

After the Holm Oak Tree / Carrasqueira, it's another 25 minutes walk to the summit on a very obvious path. There is only one fork in this path and we must go left.

September 29-30, 2021 marks the 80th anniversary of one of the most tragic pages in history: September 29-30, 1941 in Babyn Yar, in just two days, the Germans shot 33,771 Kyivans just because they were Jews.

“Babyn Yar is a common tragedy of the Ukrainian and Jewish peoples, it is an open wound for Ukraine and all mankind. We have a duty to protect the memory of Babyn Yar from the political manipulation and misinformation that are often used as weapons in Russia’s war against Ukraine. To honor the memory of innocent victims and preserve it for future generations, the UWC supports the Ukrainian state concept of establishing the Babyn Yar Museum and Memorial Complex in Ukraine. May the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar be eternal!” said Paul Grod, President of the UWC.

With all the misinformation about THE virus becoming more exposed by the day, I thought a report on fungus might be refreshing. This definitely points to five turkey tail specimens thriving on this tree....though "models" suggest that thousands upon thousands of spores await the opportunity to attack.

Perhaps we should cut down the forest?

Flight LH2513 from Birmingham to Munich 04.04.2018

Window: Waiting Room at Gate 59 Airport Birmingham International/GB

View: Aircraft Airbus A319 prepared for boarding

Background: My flight to Munich had been booked for the previous day, but was cancelled due to a general computer failure in Europe, which caused loss of data for European flight coordination. This was a nightmare, as we, the passengers were re-booked for the following day and after hours of misinformation and lack of service we finally got to know that those who were not able to return to their homes sround Birmingham had to stay overnight in a hotel to catch the first flight the next morning. It really was an adventure, which I had not experienced before although I am a frequent flyer.

This photo was not only taken for the group but also as a kind of ‘souvenir’ of this disastrous day !

**************************

Whether it's a new discovery or a near-Earth asteroid coming back close to Earth after several years, you're going to see a lot of misinformation. From fake news to bad translation, let's take a look at the pitfalls to avoid. And above all, remember: do not panic.

And a good dose of indulgence...

Will this asteroid pass Earth ?

First of all, let's go back a bit to what near-Earth asteroids are.

As long as they are minor bodies in the Solar System and their orbit passes within 200 million kilometers of the Sun (or 1.3 astronomical units), they fall into this category. Needless to say, but the latter obviously has tens of thousands of members, of which several thousand are discovered each year.

They are also divided into different families (Apollo, Aten, Amor, Atira), but this is not the subject of the day.

What should be remembered is that near-Earth Objects (NEOs) are not necessarily close to the Earth.

So, in your opinion, is it really necessary to write or read an article on an asteroid that will "graze" our planet, under the pretext that it is a potentially dangerous near-Earth object?

It's not up to us to judge, but just frequency information: in the second half of March 2023, at least 8 near-Earth asteroids will approach our planet, and all of them are classified as "potentially dangerous". ".

None will pass less than 2.8 million kilometers, however, so they will have as much influence on you as table salt handled in Iceland, or your astrological sign...

Excellent Sunday artists … it will still rain but not asteroids 😉

The 'Beast from the East' is calling the shots. I never imagined in my lifetime that I would witness the president of the United States parroting Russian lies and propaganda and siding with a Russian dictator over conflict on European soil.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia.

Volodymyr Zelensky was democratically elected.

Free and fair elections cannot be held when a country is at war and a large swathe of land is occupied by the enemy.

The so called 'leader of the free world' spreading lies and misinformation is a dangerous place to be for the world.

We need to get back to promoting objective facts instead of subjective opinions.

After removing the outer, paper-like skin from these soup shells, the strengthening ribs have been revealed. These of course add nothing to the flavour of the soup itself, but rather, they help to keep the constituent particles and fluids safe as they complete their migratory travels.

Once liberated from the metal fortress, the soup is surprisingly soft, with viscosity varying according to species. Flavours are extremely varied also, ranging from delicious to disgustingly inedible.

As a bonus, the lightness and strength of the discarded shells makes them useful for all sorts of technical projects, with the two shown here being prepared for use in an experimental solar heating system for a greenhouse.

No one really knows where soup comes from and the internet is full of misinformation on the subject. But, thanks to painstaking new research from universities on several continents, it now seems highly likely that this universal delicacy really is the product of the (once thought to be) mythical Soup Dragon.

Remember though, this new hypothesis should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Usual caveats.

This shot accompanies yesterdays post as it was taken only twelve minutes after. It looks like I misinformed you yesterday in saying that the sky was clear to the west, as there are obviously high clouds in this scene, but there was no colour to the sky except at the bottom. So not an impressive sunset, but still some nice light to work with The clouds and sky may not have been as intense in real life, but with a few gradient mask selections and some dehazing in Photoshop it was easy to give them some life.

Is it not obvious to many viewers that this is not a photograph of a bird and that the message regardless of its purpose is tainted by the inclusion of such imagery? Look at the trash in the foreground, that is a paper cup at the bird’s feet. If this was to scale that bird would stand over five feet tall. Does anyone care about such details ?

Who knows where this will lead? Only one thing is certain. AI is here to stay. The question is, can humanity use this amazing technology to do good in the world? AI may hold the key to curing cancer and ending world hunger. In the meantime, we will have to do our best to avoid the negative downside of this technology. We need to ensure that truth always prevails over deception, deceit, and misinformation.

Nandina domestica, commonly known as nandina, heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo, is a species of flowering plant in the family Berberidaceae, native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Nandina. It is widely grown in gardens as an ornamental plant with a number of cultivars that display bright-red fall foliage in the cool months, and attractive new foliage growth in spring. "Although a popular ornamental shrub, the berries are toxic to birds." We looked into that in 1974, and after consulting Sunset and the Audubon Society, found that that was false. From my trail hopping on Mt. Diablo, and seeing a heap of scat, coyotes and raccoons eat the most berries. I have never seen a bird eat them, not in almost 50 years, during which time, I've usually been awake.

Of interest, and this from the Audubon Society, "homeowners plant Nandina to specifically to provide food for birds, including the Cedar Waxwing, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, Western Bluebird and other birds that depend on winter fruits to survive." So you see, there was misinformation even before online "resources."

The Western media is having a field day reporting on the "Chinese virus" that smacks of racist overtones and China phobia.

The true victim is in fact our sense of humanitarianism.

We should all support what the Chinese government is doing by trying to contain the spread of the virus.

We all live in the same global village and should all work together in unison rather than disparaging the Chinese Government who to date has accomplished more than what the US government accomplished during the 2009 H1N1 swine flu pandemic.

When the swine flu pandemic died down in April 2010, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that 60.8 million Americans had contracted the virus, 274,304 were hospitalised and 12,469 had died.

In December last year, the flu season arrived unexpectedly early in the US, afflicting at least 19 million people, hospitalising 180,000 of them and killing 10,000. This is according to the CDC's Weekly US Influenza Surveillance Report on Jan 25.

As of Wednesday, the coronavirus has, within China, afflicted over 24,300 people and killed 490. Outside China, it has afflicted at least 186 people and killed one.

However, commentators online are expressing greater terror over ethnic Asians than the ongoing regular flu.

Know the facts from the fallacies and keep up the spirit of helping our fellow human beings in our shared time of need.

“The term (political correctness) first appeared in Marxist-Leninist vocabulary following the Russian Revolution of 1917. At that time it was used to describe adherence to the policies and principles of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (that is, the party line).” – Encyclopedia Britannica

The communists killed millions and millions of their people in order to create a utopian society based on equality. In communism, one must be “politically correct.” If you say something wrong you might disappear in the night, never to be seen again. Of course, self-censorship and voluntary compliance are preferred by the regime. Indoctrination keeps an individual within the proper ideological bounds of the state.

“Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.” – William Douglas

Many cannot recognize the threat of censorship, because they are ignorant of the crimes of communism. The public is more aware of the atrocities of the Nazis, as opposed to the atrocities of the communists. This is what happens when universities are bastions of Marxism, and professors are fond of Karl Marx. (Karl Marx and Frederick Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto). My grandpa, who went through the Great Depression, used to say, “People go to university to become socialists.” So this stuff is nothing new! This is what leftists call the “long march through the institutions.” The plan was to infiltrate the institutions of the West in order to transform them from the inside out. The Long March of the 1960s sowed the doctrines of critical theory (neo-Marxism). (Critical theory came out of the Frankfurt School). These seeds produced various kinds of critical theory: critical race theory, queer theory, postcolonial/decolonial theory, feminist theory, critical environmental theory, and critical pedagogy. Our children are being taught these subversive ideologies, even though they are rooted in evil. The fruits of these ideologies have produced mass death and misery. They gave us Stalin’s Great Purges and Mao’s Great Leap Forward. Indeed, the communists regulated speech, and millions died.

“Censorship reflects a society’s lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.” – Potter Stewart

Regulating hate speech is undemocratic; it is rooted in totalitarianism. Regulating hate speech is a way of enforcing the politically correct doctrine of the day. It suppresses free speech, and it suppresses open dialogue. It suppresses critical thinking, and it suppresses creativity. And it will eventually lead to the criminalization of ideological opposition.

“Misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and other risks to the information ecosystem are fueling conflict, threatening democracy and human rights, and undermining public health and climate action.” – United Nations

The West is losing its freedom of speech. People in England are being arrested for social media posts. In Germany, they are trying to ban a political party. We saw Western governments colluding with big tech to censor dissenting views during COVID-19. Various politicians want to fight misinformation and disinformation. The European Union also wants to crackdown on what it deems as misinformation and disinformation. What they are doing, however, is fighting against freedom of speech—against freedom.

“The proliferation of misinformation and disinformation threatens to erode the credibility of public institutions and limit their capacity to implement policies that enhance public well-being.” – World Bank

When central bank digital currencies and social credit scores are implemented, you better watch what you say or do. If you say or do the wrong thing, you will have your money frozen. You will be like the Canadian truckers, who had their bank accounts frozen during COVID-19. With quantum computing, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies, a surveillance apparatus is being built. This Beast system will be an authoritarian dystopia like the world has never known.

“In this case wisdom is needed: Let the person who has understanding calculate the total number of the beast, because it is a human total number, and the sum of the number is 666.” – Revelation 13:18

We live in a world where science education is more important than ever. The internet has allowed relatively small groups of people with whacky views (e.g. flat earthers) to find each other and the amount of science misinformation has grown exponentially.

On the other hand, the disciplines of science have also been captured by political and social agendas. The very idea there is a "consensus view" in science is anathema to the scientific method. As Galileo showed, one right idea about the universe dispels any amount of false consensus. By its very nature science is heretical, always challenging the safe orthodoxies which have grown up around pet ideas.

So we need science education more than ever, because unlike the arts (which let's face it are merely luxury beliefs), science and technology builds our world.

Questacon is a fine museum of science in Canberra with the express purpose of educating the young and encouraging careers in the sciences. The hands-on exhibition, Science on the Move, recently came to Launceston QVMAG and provides children with fun opportunities to experiment and play with various science tools. Making science fun is a very important part of educating more scientists for the future.

My wife and I went on a hike seeking this view but were misinformed about the length. What we expected to be about a 4.5 mile hike ended up being nearly double that, with several false summits. Still, once we finally got to this point, it all felt worth it. A great overlook at the top of John Rock in Pisgah National Forest, looking out at one of the most famous local features, Looking Glass Rock.

This is a stitch of 9 photos. I noticed Flickr is presenting a really small view of this image for some reason. Presumably something to do with width constraints. The original, very large image is viewable here.

This is National Coyote Week (yes, that is real thing) and it is time to dispel some of unwarranted misinformation about coyotes. Coyotes play a critical role in our multi species communities. They regulate disease transmission by managing rodent populations and culling sick animals and keep communities clean by scavenging carrion.

"It is said that when someone looks at the stars it is as if they wanted to find their own dimension lost in the universe."

(Salvador Dalì)

Self-portrait taken in the middle of the night at 3,000 meters on Mount Thabor, in the upper Vallée Étroite (France), which portrays myself contemplating the heart of the Milky Way (the so-called Great Rift).

Among my photographs, this is perhaps the one that comes closest to what the human eye actually sees, at night, when the moon is absent or set, in a place as far as possible from the light pollution of our cities.

Today's cameras (reflex or mirrorless), when combined with bright lenses, offer amazing performances and have allowed “anyone” to immortalize the starry sky.

The only peculiarity, in my opinion always good to notify, is that the ability of a quality photographic equipment to capture the light at night (working on high ISO, long exposures and almost maximum focal apertures) allows to face a very different reality (more detailed and rich of colors) from that one our eyes have always allowed us to observe.

This must be said and must be well notified, to avoid creating false expectations or misinformation.

It is a fact that most of night photography illustrate a "discovered reality" very different from what an adventurous, trained and well motivated person can observe in person, hiking, perhaps with great sacrifices, to remote places.

It goes without saying that there is no fairer view than the other, but this difference must be kept in mind if the aim is to return the nocturnal idea of a place.

I have been practicing this specific sector for 15 years now, and I have always paid great attention in searching a balance between the human vision and that offered by technology.

Research continues today.

EN: Nearly forty years after their installation (1986) the columns of Buren still arouse as much the enthusiasm (And sometimes the hystery) of the self-satisfied tourists, and wonderfully illustrate the expression "Putting someone on a pedestal"

One can notice that the guy in the back made a mistake with the direction of his stripes!

Probably misinformed by his travel agency...

I have always thought that the summer solstace happened on the 21st of June. As such, I have tried to go out taking photos on the same evening.

Imagine my horror when I found that the solstace was on the 20th this year. So horrified, I have not even looked into it. Was it a one off? Does the solstace always occur on the evening between the 20th and 21st?

I don't want these questions answered, you understand. I am happy to live in my ignorance.

Thank you to all my friends who take their time to view my pictures and leave a comment or add them as favs, Thank you once again for all your love :)
