Freezing rain all morning and still falling. Tiny frozen drop under a leftover seed in our redbud tree. Very dim light, handheld just overhead. First time to try out my macro lens since being repaired by Canon. Very shaky with a bit of breeze, as well. Had a very hard time trying to get focus.

Thanks to Fr. Suarez who celebrated a healing mass last night. I witnessed and experienced some things that I cannot explain but only my faith can comprehend. I was skeptical as I am not religious nor spiritual but I thought of giving it a shot as this was not all about me that I was there for but for my sister who was just discharged from the ICU after a ischemic (with an "i") stroke which paralyzed half her body and also affected her speech. When Fr. Suarez touched my forehead, no, not really touched, it was something like his palm was four inches away from it, I felt a certain force that made me feel disoriented and shook my balance as I tried to stand more firmly. The strange feeling that shrouded my whole faculties was beyond words to describe. But I know that I felt something, only that my mind was trying to ignore it but my heart says differently.
Anyway, I saw other people "rested in the hands of the Lord" (as Fr. called it) and when they regained consciousness, I asked them how was it and they themselves can't believe how they popped like thin air and felt the same strange feeling which made them fall at their backs in the floor.. I talked to a Japanese lady, she was a Buddhist and was not even a believer of anything beyond science but she claimed that her lingering back pains were gone immediately after the session. I dunno, I am still confused but it made me think that, miracles no matter how you refuse to recognize them, really happen.

It's the Langdales: Langdale Fell, Great Langdale Valley and a miracle of sky, sun and season all wrapped up from a point on The Band, above Stool End. Wikipedia states this: "Great Langdale is a valley in the Lake District National Park in the county of Cumbria, in the northwest of England. It is often simply referred to as Langdale, the epithet Great distinguishing it from the neighbouring valley of Little Langdale.
Langdale is a popular location for hikers, climbers, fell-runners and other outdoor enthusiasts, who are attracted by the many fells ringing the head of the valley. One of the best known features of Great Langdale are the Langdale Pikes, a group of peaks on the northern side of the dale. England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, can be climbed by a route from Langdale. Langdale has spectacular views of, in particular, Dungeon Ghyll Force waterfall, Harrison Stickle and the Pike of Stickle.
Langdale was an important site during the Neolithic period for producing stone axes, and was also one of the centres of the Lakeland slate industry."
I guess it's all true. Personally, I climbed the Langdale Fells many times as a youngster on school trips and family holidays, trips with friends and, most recently, this holiday. Then and now it was a revelation to me to climb up to Harrison Stickle and see the entire glaciated landscape laid out below with all its features. Geography and Geology O & A levels aside, those early trips informed my subsequent appreciation of landscape and its awesome beauties. For me the Langdale Valley has a significance that is a part of the mosaic which has informed my aesthetic sense ever since. I know I state this a lot on flickr - but this, a long with all the other places I write this about - is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. And of course, I mean that it's one of the most special and beautiful places to me of all that I've seen. All the time on flickr, I see and admire images made by people who clearly love the places where they are. I'd love to be able to convey something of all this here in these photos of a valley in North West England......
Snow persists as Amtrak train No. 311, the "Missouri River Runner", leaves Track 30 at Kansas City's Union Station, getting ready to hop back onto Main Track 4 of the KCT East-West Corridor at Penn Ave. Interlocking. They've just finished dropping off passengers, and they're headed to Santa Fe JCT and BN Interlocking to wye the train in order to leave here for STL as No. 316. They arrived here at KCY 1 hour and 4 minutes off the advertised, but they did actually run today even with the snow and frigid temperature, the Charger seemingly running with no big issues. It's a miracle!

We all begin as perfect miracles and each child a blessing to the world, life will be full of ups and downs, comedy and tragedy and we all have to help keep the world safe for many new generations to come. This little girl, my granddaughter is a wonder to be hold everything she sees will be a miracle too. Color, sound, taste, touch and more. Best of all she has to wonderful parents to give her love and a secure home. About half of the children born are not so fortunate. Let's do what we can to help make a safe world and take care of all children encourage education, donate to groups like CARE and UNICEF or your own local charity. We all do make a difference. May you travel in peace even in troubled times.
