When nothing works, either you are stuck or don't want to go anywhere; head to your backyard to do some plant/flower photography.

Every July the Mint Street Music Festival takes place in Mint Street Park. The festival is administered by a volunteer-run local charity, much like how the park itself was planned and plotted by the community and Council to replace abandoned hospital grounds which seemed to attract antisocial elements in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s a bright spot in a cramped quarter, excessively landscaped, and welcoming in a safe and sterile manner. Okay fine. I probably would have preferred to see bands play there in the 90’s.
All that remains of the hospital is part of the boundary wall, which gives a little hint of what the area may have looked like back when a young Charles Dickens was living around the corner from what was then the St. Saviour’s Union Workhouse.
Some even suggest that watching his impoverished peers toiling away miserably on this spot inspired the “Please sir…” scene in Oliver Twist.
These are definitely my favorite Christmas cookie. I make them every year.
