Took my eldest down to Turimetta, for a bit of father/son time (he said he wanted to take photos with me), and I'd just bought him a (very cheap) tripod because he's just learning and the low-light (ie. pre-sunrise & post-sunset) shots are hard enough without the difficulty of trying to hand-hold a DSLR steady for a few seconds. I didn't get to shoot much myself because I was spending a lot of time helping him figure out the tripod movements & teaching him a bit about the technicalities of shooting long exposures & HDRs, and also trying to point out possible images for him to make.
A couple things did surprise me, however, and they were a) the amount of kelp all over the Turimetta rocks (very disappointing, as was the lack of clouds for the sunrise) and b) the number of people who picked Sunday morning to go shoot sunrise at Turimetta (I counted 7 people in 3 separate groups, not including the progeny & I). Since when did Turimetta in April become so popular?!?!
