Happy birthday to the real Mickey Mouse who made his debut 88 years ago today in the film Steamboat Willie.
Stopped off at North drain on the way home hoping for an Otter... Just a mink looking for a fish supper. A very rich chestnut colour, not the usual near black or smokey grey ones I normally see along Tealham moor. See comments below...
Out on Tealham moor. Same place I saw a smokey grey mink a couple of winters ago, so may well be the same animal. (See comments below).
It's not very often I can catch little Minky on camera. I just managed to get a quick shot after she got onto the bed. She's getting old, a little bit deaf and her sight isn't so good these days. Weighing in at 5 pounds (2.26 kg) she still prefers a lap to curl up on.
Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed and pure breed that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives. So many dogs put their lives on the line every day, for personal protection, for law enforcement, for the disabled. drug sniffer dogs and bomb detecting dogs.
Camera shy Minky falls into the category of being a rescued dog and is happy to celebrate Dog Day doing something she loves, snuggling in her fleece. She hopes many dogs will be adopted into their forever homes and those dogs that serve us are given special treats and loads of love today and every day.

In Canada I visited the marine park close to Tadoussac, and camped in les Bergeronnes (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/36646393504). It is very difficult to make a decent whale picture and it took me 5 days to get this one, observing from morning until dusk.
This one is perfect! You can even see one eye (for best view press L and F11).
The difficulty is that you have no idea where they come out of the water, and focusing is so damn hard either. Result, most of the time you are far too late. Not this time. I guess this is a minky whale (dwergvinvis). The shot was taken from the shore at Tadoussac, which is where the river the Sanguenay is entering the bay. One of the reasons whales are abundant here is that because of the fresh water from the river, there is a lot of food here to find for the whales.

........because it's very curly but she's good at scratching. She did manage a few wags though! Minky on the other paw is really good at it and does enough wags for both of them.
Even during excessive summer heat Minky still likes to go under a cover. She always has to regardless of the weather or time of day.
Another scorcher today.
My Canada trip had two goals: 1) visiting my sister helping each other to get over the death of our mother who died at the end of April; and 2) seeing whales. I had read somewhere that the St Lawrence bay was full with all sorts of whales and if you're lucky you even could see the blue whale, the ever largest living creature in the world.
And yes, the saint Lawrence bay was a wonderful experience! From Brighton Ontario I went straight to Tadoussac that's in the heart of the marine park, and the day after I went to the camp site Les Bergeronnes, where I spent 5 days whale watching on the shore (and one boat trip), every 5 minutes or so seeing whales popping up.
On the fifth day, around sunset I took the boat from Les Escoumins to Trois Pistoles, where this shot was taken. You can see a minky whale ( I guess) - breathing out - , and if you look good, you can see a dolphin somewhere in the water.
The south and the north shore of the bay are very different. The north shore has lots of rocks, while the south part is a little more sandy, and it is a fantastic drive all along! I finally headed to PN Gaspésie, where I spent 3 very cold nights in my tent (with all my clothes in my sleeping bag), but the park is wonderful, and I will some nice shots later!
Back in the direction of Brighton I spent a few hours in old Quebec, and drove the 1000 islands road, along the saint Lawrence river.
I certainly can recommend everybody who loves nature doing this trip. It should take around 2 weeks!
