I was told on Tuesday that I had to do a presentation on Thursday to people from Dräger. My coworker was going to use this touch screen to do his demo but I decided not to because there's no real need to use a touch screen for my program.
He travels a lot but finds the laptops cumbersome to use when moving, particular they are impossible to use inside the planes. So he decided to give one of these new mini pc machines that are getting popular a chance.
Shot is around when we decided to push the machine by putting some of our production software on it, stuff we where not expecting it to handle. Machine did impress...
Hmm, wondering if one of those would handle my image editing software (Capture NX2)....

Távfelügyelet ágyúval verébre kiadásban. A cuki fehér átlátszó doboz egy raspberriPi minipc, ami mobilnettel IoT cuccot csinál a rádiós adatgyűjtőmből, mindezt percek alatt összekonfigolható linuxos magickel, potom 20kFt-ért, (az össes többi alkatrész kb ennyibe kerül) és az eredeti cucc fogyasztásának 10szeresével. Amúgy minimális munkával (na jó, 2-3 heti mérnökórával) lefejleszthető lenne, hogy a rádiós cucc kontrollere az amúgy is ottlevő USB-portján direktben a modemet kezelve megoldja ugyanezt a feladatot, nulla ft alkatrészköltség és nulla közeli plusz fogyasztás mellett, dehát lusta vagyok megcsinálni, és ha csak 1 kell belőle, akkor lehet, hogy épp nem éri meg...
Azért két hatalmas mák kellett hozzá, hogy működjön a dolog, egyik, hogy a raspberryPi véletlenül a Host USB portja felől is megtáplálható (ez amúgy kicsit sem felel meg semilyen szabványnak, de jó, hogy lehet kapni:)) a másik pedig, hogy a félig MLA-s félig gányolt CDC Usbportos megoldásomat a gyári linux azonnal megette driver nélkül (valószínű elég sokan pont hasonlót barkácsonak az MLA könyvtárból...)
Ezen kívül amúgy a módszer a valóságban kevésbé lenne életképes, mert ameddig az eredeti kütyü egy 6w-os pici napelemmel 1napi napsütéssel feltöltött akkuval majdnem egy hétig elműködött, addig ez így egy éjszakát sem tudna végigmenni egy napnyi energiából...

The tiny 17x17 cm motherboard. For scale the RAM chip is beside it. A perfectly formed motherboard! No need for a CPU fan nor a case fan which makes the server run very close to silent. Just the occasional whir of the 2.5" Hard Drive, but that is hardly noticeable.
