DEC PDP-8f minicomputer at the Computer History Museum.

The PDP-8 was the first successful commercial minicomputer, produced by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the 1960s. Something like 300,000 units in the product family were sold, which is quite a remarkable number for the era.

I used paper tape a lot. While at Marconi and Conoco.

When I was at Marconi Space & Defence Systems around 1977 a guy called John Trevelyan worked there and was a Welsh Chess Champion. He wrote a program for the Prime Minicomputer they had. I would load it up from paper tape at lunchtime any play it on a teletype.

Conoco was an interesting job and transition in that I was working on maintainance of core stack minicomputers using paper tape at the same time as using state of the art Intel 8086 SBC’s and MDS systems with floppy disk drives.

Punched tape or perforated paper (or Mylar) tape is a form of data storage, consisting of a long strip of paper (or Mylar) in which holes are punched to store data. Now effectively obsolete, it was widely used during much of the twentieth century for teleprinter communication, for input to computers of the 1950s and 1960s, and later as a storage medium for minicomputers and CNC machine tools.

It is worth buying a power supply in the raspberry pi power supply category from the Botland store. They are used to safely power Raspberry Pi minicomputers from every edition. It should be remembered that the appropriate parameters of the supplied power is a very important factor for the correct and safe operation of the device. In the raspberry pi power supply category you will find power supply via microUSB cables, as well as overlays enabling power supply from Lipol batteries and overlays enabling POE charging. It is an abbreviation which, when expanded, means "Power over Ethernet" - it is a standard that allows you to simultaneously connect the device to an Ethernet network and to electricity. #Raspberry #Raspberrypi #powersupply

This is my first "Personal Computer" - a Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP (Programmed Data Processor) 9 mini-computer in the late 1960's at Aston Univeristy's Centre for Applied Psychology. It had a console with flashing lights and rows of switches, punched paper tape (centre), Teletype 10 character a second keyboard/printer (far left), Dectape bulk storage (to the right), 9 bit bytes, racks of discrete component circuit boards and was as big as a couple of large US-style fridge freezers. A crane was needed to get it into the 1st floor room. They don't make them like this anymore....
