Bentley would never forget the horror of that grim awakening, in which he had found himself walking on bent knuckles, his voice the fighting bellow of a giant anthropoid . . .”
(In case you're wondering, this giant ape story predated the movie "King Kong," which wasn't released until March 2, 1933.)
"The Mind Master" is a sequel to Arthur J. Burks' "Manape the Mighty" which was published in the June 1931 issue of "Astounding Stories."

The Uncanny X-Men Annual

“Nothing can prepare you for the power that is Storm!”
Spoken by any human, those words sound stilted and silly. Spoken by any mutant, they sound like cash registers … ringing. Storm is an X-Men. They ring cash registers very well indeed.
Essentially, “The Uncanny X-Men” is an epic melodrama. Cluttered with characters, exaggerated emotions, and operatic posturing, distinctive costumes, and stereotypes pass for characterization. This is science fiction pageantry played by superheroes on a stage of warring good and evil.
“X-Men” is soap opera. And like soap opera, it requires a long-term commitment by the audience to learn even the names of all of the actors.
The names in “he Uncanny X-Men Annual” #17 include Storm, Iceman, Havok, and X-Cutioner. X-Cutioner is an armored ‘normal’ man out to kill bad mutants even if he has to execute good mutants to get to bad, a decidedly stupid idea.
Complicating matters is the bad mutant he wishes to Xterminate. MindMaster, even in a coma on his deathbed, is warping reality for the X-Men. The Uncanny are having problems recognizing what is canny.
Lots of personality problems between X-members, X-members and MindMaster, and X-members and X-Cutioner suds the soap opera aspects to this science fiction conflict.
Art, story, and (albeit unnatural and affected) dialogue are all xcellent in what is one of the best-selling comics titles in recent history. Not surprisingly, Marvel Comics knows where to xtend its top talent.
Surprisingly, X-Men is not recommended for most adults.
What?!? Scream outraged X-Men adult fans!! This is the most popular superteam book around; it has been for more than ten years!!
At about 350,000 copies sold an issue, “X-Men” still reaches only a tiny fraction of one percent of the potential audience of 250,000,000 in America.
And comics publishers still haven’t learned that the vast majority of readers aren’t interested in superheroes.
